Kia Ora everyone!
We're a young family from Cambridge, UK. Hoping to move to NZ this year or next, the Hawkes bay area particulary attracts us though its obvious that alot of places in NZ are alot nicer than here!
We are hoping to get in under the skilled migrants catagory, my partner Joanne is an experienced and skilled diversional therapist which we believe is an increasingly wanted profession in NZ.
We've been reading on this brilliant forum for a while, thought it was time to say hello.
Best,
Joe & Joanne:cheers

Hi Joanne
Not sure if you've considered the South Island but we're about to advertise for diversional therapists next week (4 needed) in Dunedin!!!
Dunedin may not be where you want to be but you're right, you're skills are in high demand and recognised (esp within the Duniden intellectual disability providers)
Good luck in wherever you decide to settle

Wow! What a fabulous revelation, thanks Karen.
Yes absolutely, we're considering everywhere in NZ and the south island is gorgeous. We've got so much on our hands at the moment and really just haven't been able to do enough research (every little chance we get). Could you provide me with some more details of those jobs etc?

In the UK it is generally known as an Activities Co-ordinator. Basically I provide stimulating activities (including arts & crafts, chair based exercise, reminiscense, group outings, fundraising events, in house entertainment, singalongs, Church services, bingo etc and lots more!) for elderly residents in a care home. I specialise in dementia and other neurological conditions as well as falls prevention and basically helping to keep people happy and healthy both physically and mentally.:nice1

We've set our sights on the Marlborough area now (WOW), though I have to say there's so many places that seem ideal for us. Just applied for a job in Blenhiem, fingers crossed!

I've been offered employment in Auckland! I'm still waiting to hear about the Blenhiem job but I think that I may get it.
I'm still very confused about this whole process though, the more I read the more confusing it gets! - I'll post my questions in relevant threads.

Hi and welcome. As someone who lives in Hawkes Bay I can say it's a great place. Blenheim also appeals to me - anything with vineyards and great sailing areas! :clap

Had my phone inverview for the Blenhiem job, it felt more like an interrigation tough! She didn't seem at all interested in my qualifications or my considerable and specialised experience! She also wanted me to be able to drive straight away, which I think I can't. Also the pay was a little low, indeed she seems more interested in what my partner would be doing to provide an income!
