Are there any geologists/environmental scientists on here? I'm wondering where people work in NZ with that occupation. I currently do environmental consulting (groundwater and soil cleanup), hydrogeology specialty, but I'm interested in switching career paths when I move to NZ this summer.

Not my field, but I would have thought that most work for the govt. There might be some openings with the electricity companies.
I would have thought most geologists end up in Aussie, earning huge money in the mines.

I don't know if Shell/Oil Exlporation would be too much of a carrer path change. With the price of oil these days there's more exploration going on down NZ way. Most of the jobs on offer today seem to be in Oz though.

i'm an environmental scientist ...theres plenty of work advertised around the Auckland region.
Auckland regional council have waste water and contaminated land positions at the minute, most of the local councils usually have jobs. lots always advertised for water related work especcially storm water, and contaminated land type work. Loads of consultancies advertising too.
Good luck

On the oily side there's been quite a few positions advertised on seek.co.nz , mostly in New Plymouth or Wellington. Also they advertise for rotation work (month on/month off kind of thing) there. Also try the Hays site in Aus, they sometimes have NZ jobs. If yr in the UK, try some of the headhunters like mnaglobal.com or oilcareers or worldwideworker.com. Things pop up there every now and again.
Hopefully the Great South Basin will kick start the oil industry down in S Island :)
Also check out the likes of Solid Energy and L&M for coal and coalbed methane gas, which again, is gaining ground. Crown Minerals is a great website for extractive industries background. I have more but I'm on the way to Wanaka in a motel at the mo :)
Cheers
Ian (ex oil industry in Aberdeen, now a proto skibum)
