Hi Carey,
Some friends of ours who live on the beach on the Coromandel Peninsula are house-swapping with a family in my community in the Great Lakes region of the US for 4 mos this coming August-December. I believe they found each other via craigslist.

Thanks for that; I actually meant, but didn't write, doh, house-swaps within NZ so as to experience a different place. This is what we've done over 20 times in Uk, choosing a different part of the UK or a part near freinds that we wanted to visit. As we will have no spare $ for holidays onmce in NZ wondered if house-swaps within NZ took place?

We used to house sit when we came to NZ for 2-5 month periods. We went through an organization called Homesit, but don't know fi its still around.
Also check the university newsletters, or get someone to do that for you. right now there are 8 rentals of various lengths listed inthe April 11 University of Auckland news. Cick on current issue pdf and go to page 8.

Friends of ours have done it twice but through a sort of teachers network, friend of a friend kind of thing. They didn't use an agency (is there one for NZ?).

The thing about holidays is that you don't have to jump on a plane to Europe any longer, just go over the east cape, just like Greece over there and it doesn't take as long to get there !! :laugh
You tend to change your priorities once you get here, the "holiday in the sun" takes on a whole new perspective, it has for us anyway with so many different landscapes and stuff to do.
