Hello everyone. We have been reading this forum for quite some time now after my good friend told me how great it had been helping them through their long journey (she and her family eventually left to start their new lives last week!!).
My hubby, John and I have 3 children-Will 11, Charlotte 9, and Gracie 5. We have just started the long process to hopefully enable us to move and start our new lives aswell??
John is a Health and Safety advisor/surveyor and i am a nurse. John has been applying for jobs, but as his job is not on the skills shortage i think it may be quite difficult for him - if anyone has any ideas or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
I am planning on working, but would rather wait and apply for jobs once the children are settled, although i have started to complete the nurse registration forms and mild panic is setting in as i think it is going to be a complete nightmare!!!
Our house has been on the market for the past week, with so far not even one viewing!!! I don't think we could have picked a worse time to think about all of this could we-typical eh!!
Anyway, i think i have rambled on enough now-seeing it was only supposed to be a quick introduction!!
Bye for now
Claire

It won't let me yet, I think you will have to do a few more posts. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the lovely card and magnet, it was lovely. Keep at it, you will get there I promise and just keep in touch with all the people here to help you through, including me of course.
Clare it was hard leaving but already I can tell you that NZ is great. I can see the appeal of the place even though it is early days....will keep in touch

Hello & welcome clairey b,
If you're OH is really stuck, you could easily get a job first. Apply direct to one of the DHBs, they'd snap you up with no pressure to start work before you were ready. You would have 3 months after arrival before you'd have to start work. Your OH could then be a house hubby for a while if the children still weren't settled. He'd probably get a job easily once you were here.
Just a thought.
Good Luck with the NZNC. They're not as inefficent as they first appear!

Hi
Just wanted to say hi.
I am at the same stage as you with my nurse registration. in theory there isn't much paper work to collect, but as you can see from one of my posts it is getting the people who need to provide it to kick into action.
we are doing it all on the quiet as we don't want to let anyone know until everything is through, that includes kids. so, i am having to swear people who have given references to absolute discretion!
the most frustrating part for me is collecting evidence for EOI from previous employers.
it is nice to have someone starting the process like me. I have applied for jobs directly to district health boards, but no one can employ me until I am registered but, that hasn't stopped a lot of interest in my cv and encouraging replies.
good luck with your journey. if you find anything out that will help me let me know and i will do the same. please read my post about not selling yourself short if you have been seconded onto further training. it can be the difference between the number of points you get. i have checked with the nmc and they agree with me.

Welcome Claire & family. Good luck with your registration & job hunt. The registration process isn't too daunting - it is just the waiting once everything has been sent. Keep chasing them as well as I didn't know until I contacted them that they had not received my transcript. :)

Claire and co. Welcome :nice1
Not sure about the h+s side of things, it all comes under NZ safety, may be worth doing a troll on that, it is getting more H+S conscious here so may have a chance there. There is an awful lot of building work going on too so surveying may be a better angle for your application, although if I were you I would say that you go as the principal applicant as nursing is definitely on the shortage list and it would make the process a bit safer.
Good luck on it all, we think it has been worth it, we are loving it down here.
