Hi all. After a long time lurking on this forum and getting all sorts of useful info and advice, I thought it was about time for proper introductions and a quick summary of our plans!
We are Norman and Karen from Bracknell, Berkshire in the UK and are planning to move to NZ at the end of the year.
In 2003 we visited NZ for six weeks and had a fantastic time. At that stage we did have vague thoughts about emigrating but decided it was just too far away. So we promised ourselves we'd just have to return for another extended holiday...maybe in ten years time...Ha Ha! Well, we ended up going back in 2005, and then again last year. We loved it just as much as the first time and decided we should go for it and make the move. We've actually found the immigration process reasonably straightforward, although again this forum has been really great for help on getting started.
We are planning to settle in Wellington, which is probably best for us both for getting jobs (me - central/local government/IT and Karen is a counsellor currently studying for her psychotherapy qualifications). The other possibility might be to live on the Kapiti coast and commute in.
It is very exciting but scary as we have now set ourselves a timescale and are realising all the things we need to do!
Anyway that's probably enough for now, but just wanted to say thanks to all for sharing experiences here and good luck to everyone planning a move to NZ or going through the visa process!
