Could someone tell me if you need to get your qualifications asseted before putting in your EOI and if so how long does it take also how much is this process thank Natasha

Yes, if you claim points for your qualification. You can either lodge a pre-assessment application (75NZD) or a full-assessment application (450NZD and up). Anyway you'll need a full-assessment when your ITA is issued if you don't have a job offer. I selected the pre-assessment before I sent my EOI, it took around three business weeks to get an answer.
Hope that helps :)

natasha, whether you need your qualifications assessed depends on a number of things... if you have a job offer, if your qualification is on the recognised list etc, so it's difficult to give a totally accurate response...

it's something you can check out though without too much difficulty

Hi Natasha

I've just put in for my qualification pre-assessment online for my foundation degree.
The form was quite straightforward and was an easy process. From everything I've read it seems like a good idea to have it done before your EOI as it gives yourself a better idea where you generally stand in the educational/qualification stakes.

Hi everyone and thank you all, Kerry i have been on NZ this morning after a boring night shift:wah which shows OHs qualifacation and collage are on the list NOT to be asseted and then further down the page it tells you the qualifacations need to be assested :( so i called NZ immagration office London went through all recorded messages for 10 mins at £1 a min to speak to someone who could`nt understand me, so for a further 6 mins finally got her to understand and she said if OH uni is on the list where he got his degree so hopefully this is true could anyone else out their confirm this for me and also Kerry how much did you pay to asses your qualifacations thanks again Natasha

it's not the easiest bit of the process to get through.
okay, so the uni/poly is on the list and he has a BA or BSc?
does he have a job offer?

perhaps if you cut and paste the bit that you read that is confusing you, or link to it someone here will be able to suss it out :)

personally speaking my Uni was on the list and I had a job offer, so all I had to do was supply my degree certificate, so it is possible to get through without NZQA assessment, as I say it just depends on the individual circumstances

I take it that if the university where you graduated is on their list there is no need for NZQA assessment? I checked and it said on the govt website that my university diploma qualifies for lvl 7. That should be ok, right?
So, should i just ask for my master degree to be assessed, for them to decide whether they can give me 5 extra points, or if they consider that as being an honors postgrad diploma and not MA per se? (note: 1 year MA based on coursework and individual research). Anyone else was in a similar situation?

(The draft for EOI is helping a lot, already made a list with all the docs, diplomas needed and an estimative price...gawd...i need a drink!)

I don't know about NZQA, but as far as I'm aware, most MAs from UK universities are on the model you describe - 1 year f/t or 2 years p/t, coursework + research. I've only heard of a very few fully taught MAs.

Or am I misreading you? Are you saying your master's degree was NOT on that basis?

Hi Natasha

From my own personal view, the University that awarded my FdSc was on the list (Good old Portsmouth Uni!) but I wanted to know what level it sits at in NZ terms for EOI points, so I went ahead I did it.
In cost me NZ$75, for me thats about £35 I'm guessing so fairly minimal to give me the information I'm looking for.

Hope you get there in the end! :)

It was 1 year full attendance, 3 days a week, had 6 lectures per semester taught only in English. The generation before me had a 3 semesters MA, and those after me attend a 4 semesters MA. :( that is confusing for me.
I am going to send my MA for assessment to see if i can claim a higher level.
Thank you for your answers :)

Hi thank you everyone for your replys very useful, also dusk my OH degree is BSc and Middlesex uni is on the list so we gain 50 point for that and hopefully we dont have to get it assested as we`re trying to get everything together to put in our EOI and also we dont have jobs (as yet!) but as soon as we put in our EOI my OH is going to TRY and set up job interviews ONLY if possible and go to NZ for a couple of weeks in August as we would like to be in NZ end of November. IF ONLY THINGS GO AS PLANED!:wah

ah right, sounds like a fairly standard course. U think a lot of the problems crop up with courses that are non-standard or those taught in non-english speaking countries as well as technical/work based exams. so you should be okay.

if you're planning on making a quick move I would advise you make sure you get all the paperwork you need (barring the medical and possibly not the police cert just yet) - do a quick search on here or PM me if you want the list of stuff you're liekly to need :)

Hi all,

Maybe someone coud give me clarification on this assesment thing. My husband is a qualified (with papers) Diesel Mechanic. Has a work permit for 1 year in NZ. He had a job offer and has since started with the company.

What I would like to know is: He is trying to clarify whether or not he would ne to have his qualification assessed before submitting his EOI. What are your suggestions? Oh and I am still sitting in S.A !
