Hi everyone!

I'm a new member and I'm having worries about my qualifications in the Long term skills shortage list. I am a CPA in my country and I'm claiming points for Work experience in an Area of Absolute Skills shortage (as an Auditor). However, the list says that I have to be a member of the NZICA (NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, i think) in order for me to claim the bonus points.

Question: Is there an exam that I should take first to be a member of the NZICA and before I can further proceed with the submission of my EOI (so I can claim the points)?

Help please...

I think this question came up recently and it does seem as if this is a definite requirement.

Your best bet is to get in touch with the NZICA I think and speak to them about the possibility of acquiring the registration you need. also have a quick search on here and you might find the thread I half remember - it might have some useful info in it :)

I don't think they recognise the CPA qualification in NZ but worth contacting NZICA which is the only recognised accounting body over here.
If you are a member of ICAEW for example then you only have to sit two papers to convert.

thanks whiskythedog!

i have read NZICA's requirement for me to be a member and i think it would take lots of time and money:( . i also read (again and again and again...:no ) the operations manual regarding claiming points on relevant work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage as well as points for qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage. and seems that i cannot claim the bonus points because i am not a member of the NZICA (though i have a relevant work experience! DUH! ).

well, i guess my last option would be to find a job offer....:wah

I would think you can still claim points for your work experience even though you are not NZICA qualified as I am pretty sure that I did - I don't think I claimed points for the CA qualification but I did for a degree.
A job offer definitely pushes you through.
