Full NZQA or Pre-Assessment?

Hi there

I just wanted to know if its better to do the full NZQA assessment or to go the pre-assessment route first? My qualification and varsity are not on the recognised list.
I have an advanced diploma in marketing. Will I be able to claim points for this? From which level would you be able to claim points and how much are those points? So if its level 4, or 5 or whatever, how many points can you claim?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi lovebirds,

Pre-assement is enough for EOI! Do full assesment only for your curiosity or if your employer wants to see what your degree is equal to in NZ.

Diploma in Marketing..I don't think so, but if you have experience in absolute skills shortage area, then you can. Not sure how many points are alloted to diplomas.

Hello Lovebirds,
You will need full assessment for ITA eventually if you claim points for qualifications in your EOI.
If you start filling out the online EOI you can see how many points are allocated.
Goo dluck!

do the full assessment if you are planning to go all the way otherwise when you do your ITA they will ask for it a nd NZQA are not renowed for their speed!

Don't want to hijack the thread, but my wife went for pre-assessment for her qualification as we were hoping it would add 20 points to our EOI (as second applicant with a recognised basic qualification). It's been returned (but not the money!) as they have insufficient data to decide how many points it is worth.

We could go for the full assessment, but that obviously costs more money, and takes a lot longer with no guarantee of getting the points. Plus I think the NZQA will contact her current employer to validate stuff with them. Telling her current employer that she wants to emigrate is probably not the best thing to do right now, so we'll have to wait and save up.

I wasn't aware that if you claimed points for qualifications based on pre-assessment you would still need to do full assessment once you've been Invited To Apply? Does this still apply to qualifications on the recognised list? i.e. Degrees from UK Universities.

Thanks.

yes you do or a least thats what immigration told me when my EOI was selected and then deselected a pre assessment was only what it said on the packaging! I also had my pre assessment returned asking for more info which I gave I knew what level it should be at as I had spoken to others with the same qualification and quoted this! I do not kno why when they have assessed one professional qualification it is not listed or recognised whats more annoying is my qualification is actually tuaght in NZ universities and still not recognised!!!

As I understand it the pre-assessment is purely for the EOI. Full assessment is for employers (or just for yourself) and is SOMETIMES requested for your ITA but not always so going straight for the full assessment is unecessary.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!

You'll certainly need a full assessment for ITA if you don't have a job offer. Pre-assessment is faster, the full takes ages (sometimes). I would suggest you go for PAR so you can quickly submit your EOI then the full later.

mine were done in about a week and to give you a guide, equivalent to UK nvq level 3 seems to be a NZ level 4.

I assume that was the PAR, or was it the full assessment?
