As I said on another thread yesterday, we have the packers in at our UK address and thought you might be interested for those who have yet to do this in how things are packed. Our crew pack everything down to dismantling the computers, hifi, desks etc. They are so quick yet it is packed properly. Our first container comes tommorrow with the 2nd on Tuesday. We not only have our stuff but the two grown up kids stuff from their 2 flats. So as you can imagine we can't move at the moment

That long object with what looks like 2 legs is our sofa with all the cushions around it.
One thing we have learnt is not to put anything down too long or it gets packed.

Thanks for the pictures - it's really interesting to see how it all happens.

You're sounding very calm and in control, so I hope that's true, and long may it continue!

Hi Alan,

You can self pack and several people on this forum have self packed but you will be more scrutinised with customs and Maf if you self pack and some insurance companies will not insure you if you self pack. There is no way we would have self packed as what is taking them 5 days would take us 5 months :laugh

Hello Dave and Caroline,

We packed ourselves and they did not look anything like yours at all.
It seems like great move of choosing packers to do the job
Good luck with the move.

Thanks for the clarification, of course none of the companies really state that option but then I guess most people wouldn't want it anyway, although I may scare the Mrs this evening by telling her I think we should do it ourselves to save a few pennies :D

End of day 3 and the first container is packed and is on its way. Although we have been in NZ on and off for the last year it still seems like a dream. It will probably sink in when we have a completely empty house on tuesday. The last day of the computer will be monday morning. There is no going back now

No prizes for guessing what this is.

Now that the weekend is here and the packers don't return to monday, it is now starting to sink in that our home, that we have been in for many years, is no longer going to be our home and even though we have been in NZ for a year now, I am finding it a bit daunting that I won't be coming back, up till now I have enjoyed every minute of it. Once we are back on NZ soil I will probably be ok as we have made many friends in NZ.
I'll stop waffling on now. Thankyou everyone for your kind messages

It's not waffling - it's very understandable. I can imagine I'll feel very strange when my time comes to walk out of this house where we've lived since 1980, and if it hadn't been for DS happening to end up in NZ, we would've only left here feet first. I'm reminding myself what a good feeling the place had when we first looked at it, and how someone else may pick up on that, and our happy experience of raising a family here as well. And it'll always be in my memories.

To me, it looks like a kid, lying on their stomach with legs in the air, watching tv and has been wrapped up cos they didn't move!
