Does anyone have any knowledge of what public transport there is from west Auckland, thinking of living in Titirangi ir neighbouring are, no problem with park and ride, nearby train / bus station any thoughts would be fab. Cheers.

There are definitely buses from Titirangi in to the centre of Auckland. I THINK they're Stagecoach - you could try Googling?

Titirangi is my old stomping ground! There are regular buses from Titters into the city centre, here is the timetable:

They go via the transport exchange at New Lynn (about 10/15 mins from Titirangi), where you can pick up buses to other parts of Auckland.

Just across the road from the New Lyn bus station you can get trains to Newmarket and Britomart (the train station in the CBD) amongst others, or further West to Henderson and onwards to Swanson.

That's fantastic, so I am not unrealistic thining the commute will be ok? My husbands working at Fanshawe Street.

Really nice to speak to someone who has lived there. Any idea what the schools are like, I have a 5 year old and a 12 year old so will be looking at both primary and secondary.

I would say the comute is do-able, plenty of people do it and I have done it myself. But if he travels in rush hour on the buses it will take about an hour, maybe a bit less depending on traffic, so it can be tiring. It used to be that if you went in/came home slightly earlier it was much quicker.

Primary schools in the Titrangi area are excellent, in the village centre itself is Titirangi School, which used to have an excellent reputation:

Just down the road is Kaurilands School, where I went, also great!

Further into the Waitakeres (not so near public transport), is Woodlands Park Primary:

The local intermediate school (in NZ you usually go to a separate school for 2 years in between primary and secondary, aged 11-12) is also very good and here:

Green Bay High, the nearest secondary school, did not have a great repuation so my parents didnt send me there, but that was over 10 years ago. Back then it was known for being very liberal, they didnt have a uniform, lots of pot smoking, but looking at the website maybe things have changed. I have friends who went and did just fine, got good places at university etc

If your kids are clever they can get into Avondale College, its out of zone but a lot of Titirangi kids go there, so many that the college puts on buses to Titirangi. Its where I went and it also used to have a very good reputation:

I work in education myself and so do both my parents in NZ. I prefer the education system back home - much more relaxed and happier, less stressed teachers :)

The primary school still has a very good reputation. My family live in South Titirangi Road, and know a lot of people with children there - my grandson will be starting there next year.

I hope so, in due course - we're not there yet, as we can't put our process (parent sponsorship) in motion for the moment, due to obligations towards the older part of the family.
