Got my interview in the morning.

:wah
WARNING: There was information missing from our application. Our doctors said that everything we needed to send was in a sealed brown envelope that they gave us. It wasn't!
:wah

Our X-ray certs were still in the large envelopes with the X-rays! Our case officer knew exactly where they would be, must happen quite a lot!

So ....don't believe everything your doctor says, or better still don't trust anyone! Not when you are applying for residency anyway (I'm not this cynical really :yes )!

Have to send them off special delivery again. :wah

Hope this helps someone else.

Cheers

Just got off the phone.

Interview went very well, thanks for all the reassuring posts.

Didn't ask anything unexpected and seemed to be happy with my responses.

What with having to send our xray certs in will take a week or so for anyone to get back to us.... cross fingers eh?

Neil, hope you get to hear tomorrow, I'm sure if your interview went okay you won't have any problems at all mate.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Oh yes!

We've been adjusting our preconceptions for the past couple of weeks now what with all the posts about the cost of everything and the house temps in winter, but we are fully commited to living somewhere so beautiful and different (but not just one-off-gimmicky-different, in NZ I can see a lot of what people want to happen...happening, the UK is run for money and profit and where and how you live is always secondary...at best!).

I CAN STAND THE RAIN!!!

The sheer magnitude of being able to go and work and live anywhere in New Zealand forever...well its scary as .....as something that should have an 18 rating!

All we have to do now is do everything we had dreamed of being able to do!

Where to start????????????

Babette,

Thanks - yes, things are getting a bit more realistic now, especially as we now have one-way tix booked for 18th March ! 4 week countdown now!

Passports - CO said call him if they are not back by the end of next week, so that would be a 2 week wait.

Hiya Neil, have you really gone for the one way ticket? I thought maybe we had to have a return ticket booked (haven't thought or read up about this since we started thinking about emigrating early last year.

Is it much cheaper?

Cheers

neilw71
21st February 2005, 07:05 PM
Hi,

Yep one-way tix with Singapore booked over their web site (cheaper than any other agent or web site for this particular tix)

We have paid £440 one-way for mid-March from Manchester. I spent nearly a full day and could not find cheaper. Return was coming up at £850 for that date.

My problem with a return was that if you want a cheap ticket, then you have to name a return date - then call to change it before that date and have to pay maybe £100 each to change the dates - hence a cheap ticket becomes more expensive! Also it means you HAVE to make a return to the UK within the first 12 months. We may do that - but I don't want to HAVE to do it because I would waste half an airfare if we didn't!

I know some people prefer a return for the security, but we will have a credit card locked away ready for any emergency if we need to get back quickly!

If you are travelling on a visitors visa then you must have a return ticket or you won't be allowed to travel... I assume with a wonderful PR sticker you can go with a one way ticket :P ohhh we wish! ITA being sent off this week when meds come back :hopeso

Singapore air don't charge for changing the return date. Best thing we have found is to book your air ticket as far in advance as possible. We have paid from £530 to £730 for returns at various times but this is bought because we have elderly parents and one of our kids still in the UK. To come out in July or August is nearly as expensive as the christmas flights so avoid those times if you can. Generally NZ to UK fares are expensive bought in NZ.

Thanks everyone, I always tend to take the safe path/choice but we are commited to staying in NZ and with 2 kids don't really want to heve to make that long flight again.

I am surprised about July and Aug fares although I guess it's just due to it being our traditional holiday time.

Hi All,

Had my interview today, seemed to go OK (I think), he seemed OK with everything. I did ask if he could give me any indication of the decision, i.e. if it would be PR or a work permit, but he said he didn't really want to say anything until he had gone through things and had a colleague check it as well. I just hope that I'm not the first person on the forum that gets a work permit instead of PR! :no :hopeso :hopeso :hopeso :hopeso

Never thought I'd be this nervous, I was fine before the interview, now I'm like a cat on hot bricks. to top it all we had our first house viewing at the same time as the interview, spooky coincidence or fate?

Neil - the 18th of March is an excellent day - not only are you off to start your new life, but for me it's my first day after finishing work!! Handing in my notice on Monday, and with a few days holiday owed I'm finishing on the 17th :P
We've basically decided that to make it all happen (planning to leave the UK in August) I'm going to have to start giving 100% to doing those final DIY things in the house before putting it up for sale, and then ofcourse all the de-cluttering / carboots etc
So come next week I have 9 days left in the office (I work part-time) so countdown to the 18th for me too :cheers
