Hi all
I have posted on another thread but thought I should introduce the johns family properly.
We live in cornwall, being Neil 36, Elaine 34 and Keira 10, Ethan 6.
I own a financial services company (dont ask!) and Elaine is training to be a hairdresser and does our company accounts.
We have planned to emigrate for the last 5 years and now is the right time for many reasons mostly being the state of the country and to be fair, if cornwall is no longer any good then there isnt a nicer place in the UK left!
House is on the market now so it all begins..

thanks everyone..
should we whack in an EOI now or wait until the house goes under offer? we cant really try to look for work from afar until that happens.

Can't make the decision for you but can tell you what happened to us...

Came back from our recce with the intention of selling the house, going over to NZ and OH getting a job while contacts were still hot, doing all the visas/process over there.
Put the house on the market, sold within two weeks but then our buyers changed their minds:mad:
Still, with lots of viewings and interest we even turned down a low offer:o Things still looked promising ... then the market just died for us.
By November we thought we might as well do something constructive and put the EOI in. Glad we did because the house is STILL on the market but we are in the final stages of residency and just waiting to hear now...

I'm actually glad in some ways, as we are much more prepared than one year ago and much better informed.

Guess the moral of my story is that even the best laid plans can be out of your control and you need to keep things flexible!! (I did read your plan on the other post)

Whatever you decide best of luck.

Welcome Victoria et al,
My husband and I also live in Cornwall, and as you say, if here is no good then it has to be New Zealand!:exit
Best of luck with your plans. xx

Welcome to the forum

Such a shame about what you say, I love Cornwall & it's one place I will miss visiting, but that's all I did visit not live there
Good luck

Don't misunderstand me... Cornwall IS beautiful. I in live Polperro which is known as a tourist destination. It is a stunning fishing village but is having a real identity crisis, not knowing whether to remain a 'bucket and spade' holiday resort or a more 'upmarket' secluded hideaway. I'm not Cornish and I chose to live there, so I'm not knocking it.... I love the sense of community and the feeling of belonging but every june through til September I feel invaded and hemmed in by some visitors that don't hold the village with such regard and just want to 'get what they can' and not contribute either economically or emotionally.... blah blah I'll stop rambling on... but I feel that I can find the kind of lifestyle I want in N.Z that I thought I would find in Cornwall.

Polperro is lovely & I have great memories of our holiday there but I can imagine how different it must be to live there, we always went a week before Easter & had great weather & not that crowded but I would never dream of visiting at peak season, how locals cope I do not know, I'm sure you will find the space in New Zealand a pleasant change without loads of people around you, although I'd miss all those little higgldy piggldy streets, wonder if there's anywhere like that in NZ?

Remember getting stuck on a hill in the wagon in a village called Paul - really steep, had to trans-ship the seed potatoes from the back of the trailer to the front to get traction on the drive wheels :laugh The idiot dispatcher got the drops mixed up.... grrrr

Anyway, you have some leeway in the whole process. You can delay your ITA application and you have time after that if things are still slow, so be mindful of this.

Good luck.
