Hi all

Anyone else feeling tormented by the lovely UK weather today?

It's been gourgeous and I'm really regretting the timing of our move- hopefully we're going on the 22nd May. Is the winter in Auckland as bad as the UK?

It's wet, but not nearly as cold.

It's much shorter, and in between the rain, there is more sun.

I still wouldn't want to leave the UK in May though - my favourite month.

I think May and June in the UK is a marvellous time to be there....in a good year (i.e. NOT 2007!).
Last year, May in NZ was probably better than in the UK but that was really exceptional.

Also, that good UK weather you had will be gone in a few hours and will be replaced by cool, miserable weather this week.

Auckland in winter is nowhere near as cold as anywhere in the UK. It's not even close.

No, winter is shorter and warmer here.

It is I think, the equivalent of it being a UK October here at the moment. It's been sunny all day and I'm walking round in a teeshirt. Wouldn't be doing that in the UK in October.

We're just thinking the same; why are wanting to leave...it's GORGEOUS here atm with Spring really Springing but already clouds are over, yesterdays sun gone and I know we'll be back to putting the heating on before long. UK Spring very unpredictable but when/if we do a return to Uk in the future, we'll try to aim for Spring coz nothing quite like it. However having had 40+ yrs of Springs here, time to have them somewhere else. Always when you you're about to leave something, you only see the good bits.

Just to let you know, Spring in NZ is also known as being very unpredictable and unsettled. October is meant to be the windiest month of the year. And last October was very windy indeed. If it calms down in time NZ can get a very nice late Nov/December out of it, but quite often the weather takes until January to settle properly, and then March ends up being a better month than December.

If you love UK Spring though you would love NZ's Spring. Different stuff. Pohutukawa can start flowering around November in some locations. One thing to watch out for is the Spring sun- in NZ it's an absolute killer. It could be 13C and blowing a gale in October, but with UV index of about 8.

Got out the spa tonight, so warm didn't even bother wrapping myself in a towel - weird. But there is a warm front over the country, it is going to get colder tomorrow with heavier rain. Can't complain after this summer though...
