Hmmm...

I've been back in NZ two months now, and among other things that I have noticed, my partner and I have both been discussing how there seems to be a marked increase in thinner people in the Wellington city area than, for instance, in Christchurch, or even in the Hutt. Logically we suppose this is because of the hills and because Wellingtonians are more inclined to commute by public transport (which involves at least some walking and/or standing up).

There also seems to be a host of people out walking/running/jogging up and down the hills from 6am onwards!!

It could also be the copious amounts of black worn in the CBD. Very slimming! :D

Oh goody goody I need to lose some weight so hopefully the hills in Wellington will do the trick. Need to ban them from selling chocolate muffins though!! :D

How are you settling back in, I was wondering the other day where you had got to?

Hi Mels! :)

We have settled in Crofton Downs (near Ngaio) for the moment (just renting). The house market seems to be going up and down a little bit, but we're not desperate to buy as yet as I can make our money go further by renting. :D
We've got a place at the top of a lot of steps and I can feel the fat melting off me going up them - especially when I am carting my groceries up!

Anyway it has a lovely view over bush-clad hills! Worth the climb once you're up here. :D

How are you getting on?

(Apologies if this shows twice I thought I had hit reply.)

I've heard Wellington has the mythical bike lane, something midwesterners in the USA could not even fathom! The only reserved-use lanes around here are the drive-thru at McDonald's.
And of course walks along the beach are good exercise too!
Fitness really does vary from place to place...

I can categorically confirm that moving from Edinburgh (hilly) to Hamilton (flat) makes you fatter.

It follows, I suppose, therefore that the opposite should be true.
