Right hear goes..... we have our ITA and have begun the process of gathering the paperwork, most of which is fine until we come to the qualifications. My OH is the main applicant and has a BTEC HNC which is on the list of recognised quallies and assessed at level 5. We have no job offer but we are claiming points for skills and qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage. Reading the ITA guide again and again and....... again it says we do not need to have the qualification assessed by NZQA, but reading threads on this forum it appears we do need the assessment. When we look at the ANZSCO list of jobs the one we have applied for requires a Diploma at level 5 so it appears that everything is fine.
Help do we need the assessment or not?

Hi There
It's very confusing isn't it!
I would say that if your qualification is in one of the disciplines listed below, then you do not need the assessment, as they have been assessed by NZQA.
Hope it helps
Dave and Linda

Taken from NZ Immigration List of Recognised Qualifications 28/04/08
The following Higher National Certificates and/or Higher National Diplomas awarded by BTEC are assessed as occupying Level 5 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Agriculture
Business
Computing
Design (Higher National Diploma only)
Engineering
Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management (Higher National Diploma only)
Public Administration

Check what the majority of the course was about and if it is one of the above titles. Not sure what is needed when using it for a skill though?
If you can find the 'Operations Manual - Residence, SMC' on the NZIS site it will help as it is what the case officers go by.

If you needed the qualification checked you would have received a bright yellow A4 piece of paper asking you to attach the assessment to it

Hope this reassures!
