Hi,

My wife and I are looking to emmigrate in the near future, well the next 18months with our 3 kids and are especially attracted to the Cantebury area. I work in IT and have for 20 odd years and there look to be a lot of jobs in the area.

The big problem we do have is that where we live is a lovely little part of England, right on the Coast in a smallish village. For now it seems to be immune from the problems most other towns are having which makes it difficult to take the decision. My driving forces are 1. I spend nearly 5 hours a day commuting to/from London and 2. Taxation in the UK and the cost of living is really starting to hurt.

I have already seen a lot of useful information on these forums and am sure I will be posting a fair bit over the coming months.

Out of interest do they say G'Day as a greeting in NZ like they do in Oz.

Hello and welcome Damian.

I don't think it's impossible to find somewhere rural/semi rural but still in a reasonable commute from town...

there seems to be plenty of IT work in most of the major cities and towns so plenty of opportunities to find the perfect match for yourself and your family I would think :)

The tax take in NZ as a % of GDP is actually higher, and the cost of living is not what most would call cheap, either. A five hour commute is still a good enough reason to leave.
