Can anyone offer advice re: medicals? I'm in good health but hubby has been diabetic for 30 yrs (Type 1, he's aged 33) & also takes meds for high blood pressure and cholestrol. We've got immigration medicals in a couple of wks & he's panicking his health will mean we won't get PR. He has declared health probs on EOI & we still got ITA recently. Don't know his BMI (or mine!) but am sure its over 30 - will this affect our application?
Also, med fees are about £350-£400 (Manchester), is this the going rate?
Thanks
:)

here's a link to find out your BMI:

if either of you have a BMI of over 35 you may have a problem.

He will probably need the extra blood tests given his history. I would also bring a letter from your GP speaking about his problems (as well as copies of his medical records from your GP) to be submitted with the medical paperwork to show what has been done to maintain his diabetes and other issues.

Good luck!

Hi!
I can't offer any advice re: the diabetes, but my OH suffers from high blood pressure too, controlled by medication. We declared this in a letter from our GP, and it was not a problem on the day. His waistline was slightly large, and he had to have the additional blood test, but again that was fine (just more money).

We went to the Dr Millions practice in Manchester, and yes, that was around the cost...

Good luck!

Hello,

right, I'm currently going through this process (diab type 1)

I've had the medical (no extra blood tests) and have provided documents from my gp and diabetic specialists with the medical report. My report has been passed by the "medical" doctor and has just been forwarded to the medical assessor "for comment" but this is pretty much par for the course with diabetics, annoying that it adds time top the process, but as there's nothing much wrong with me and the diabetes is under control I'm hopeful it won't take long for them to process me ;)

To be honest as long as his annual review reports are okay and show no complications you should be alright with that side of things.

The BMI issue is sadly more problematic. NZIS really don't like people to have high BMI, so do check out what that is.

The medical fees you've stated are for 2 of you or per person? if per person they are a bit high, if for both of you not bad at all ;)
