Hi all, just wondering if anyone can advise as to what the contracting market in NZ is like. I'm a S/W Engineer with over 10 years cross platform C/C++ experience mainly in banking and finance but more recently in Defence. I have UML and SQL (SQL Server, Sybase & Oracle).

Can anyone advise of the sort of rate I would get in NZ, how easy it is to get contracts, what the agencies are like, what sort of hours you are expected to put in and what the tax laws are like for contractors....

Cheers all

Big demand for programmers here just like everywhere else, mainly in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Just take a look at www.seek.co.nz and you'll see the rates and amount of work. www.ird.govt.co.nz has the tax info you need and explains how to register.

Thanks for the responce and info zoid. I have looked at seek but most of the adverts there just don't say what the rate is. Was really hoping for some personal experience as that that tells you so much more than the official blurb

There's a post about a salary survey (contract/permanent).

Thanks for pointing us towards that Pedro. Can anyone advise if there is much demand for non .NET C++ developers?
