Hi There !

Would be grateful to hear from anybody who has made or is making the move to NZ who works in the library/Information field, or local government.

How did you find your job search and is there any tips you can pass on ?

Would be very much obliged for any information :) :) :)

Hi Jaq,
welcome to the forum!
Can't help much with library work; only applied for two library positions myself recently. I found one of the vacancies on the city council website. (Here some links to vacancies in four NZ cities:
for Auckland:http://careers.haines.co.nz/aucklandcity/Pages/
for Christchurch:http://www.bfound.net/list.aspx?CoId=131&rq=1
for Wellington:http://campaigns.haines.co.nz/WCC/Pages/Vacancies.aspx
for Dunedin:http://www.cityofdunedin.com/city/?page=notices_sitsvac)

It's also worth checking the websites of the daily papers in every city for vacancies (that's where I found the other vacancy.)
And don't forget to check the Universities' vacancies; they are often advertising library/information jobs.
Hope this helps a bit.
Good luck!

Hello and welcome from us too :) Think it's also worth checking out www.seek.co.nz as am sure I saw some library jobs advertised their under government/defence section...

Hi

I worked for Christchurch City Libraries for a year and loved it. It's a very "in demand" job and for the 3 positions advertised there were literally hundreds of applicants. They do prefer library experience but not essential - I suspect anyone with experience would get first dibs at jobs. Some extremely highly qualified ladies working in the libraries that I met.

Well run, great training, great facilities, great teams, great career development but crap pay. I was a part-time Network Librarian and the pay was about the same as the council staff who work the multi-storey car park booths!!

However, I didn't leave because of pay, but because we moved out to the boonies.

Hope that helps

plenty of local government jobs here in Auckalnd with several authorities to Choose from, The one i work for is always advertising for library jobs. best place is to check direct the local councils websites for vacancies. Or like has been suggested seek and trade me both advertise government jobs. As local authorities (or territorial authorities) as theyre refered to out here are usually acreditted employers the whole visa thing can be made easier too

good luck
