This Saturday sees the Waikato Waldorf School put on their annual Medieval Carnival with stalls, rides and lot's of idiots dressed like it's year 500BC.
Legend has it that this is quite a good and popular event, not that we have any personal experience of it. As it is hosted at my kids school I have been roped in to help out and run the cafe and cakes stall for the morning, so if you fancy attending please come along. Might be safer in the afternoon if you value your health :) Equally, if you like cake arive early. I have a large cake retention capacity ;)
The fortnightly held Rototuna Food and Craft Market at the same venue will be on at the same time, so if you're out of manuka honey, wind chimes or organic pasta, then now's your chance to stock up.
Date: Saturday 10th May
Where: Waikato Waldorf School, 85 Barrington Drive, Rototuna

There are those in the world who may say NZ doesn't need to re-enact medieval times, there still in it... :)
(Oops did i say that out loud?) ;)
Will there be a hog roast? cant beat a good hot-pork roll! (thats not a metaphor by the way!)

You should know Lee. If you can't recognise something that shouldn't be dark in your profession, you're in trouble.
Switch on dude!

.... and the weather stayed dry and warm for us. We arrrived at 9 am to help set up some of the stalls and the carnival was opened at 10 am by the resident town cryer.
We had Lords and Ladies, Princes and Princesses, Witches, Beggars and Thieves! Amazing how many people were dressed in costumes (including us - see photos below). There was archery, a castle siege, a rat catcher, a jousting game on horseback (wooden horse on a track) and musicians. There were lots of stalls selling all sorts of items from books to childrens clothing, from crystals to wooden letter boxes, face painting, raffles and so much more. We had a cafe (run by Sam and I amongst others) with cakes and biscuits abound (mostly home made), stalls selling organic clothing, candles, soaps, craft items, the list goes on.
It was a fantastic day and certainly one which I would recommend for anyone in the Hamilton area this time next year.

Great costumes guys, hope you had a great day, looks like you did.
And you know what strikes me? You have thrown yourselves headlong in to the community spirit, and THAT is why you are enjoying life here :nice1
Good on ya, sweet as bro (sorry wrong thread)
