Thanks to FOM's post remind about gift for kindy.
Due to multi-food allergies at my son's kindy, they have ban sweets, cakes, biscuits or similar as presents to children for 5th birthday, they request a present instead so that all children can benefit from it during kindy.

Right my son will be 5 soon and this kindy got everything!
I want to buy something really different that they haven't got but very useful as educate the children...any ideas? I know we haven't got ELC in chch, so may look into ELC's website but welcome to any ideas from you? thanks

How about some of those National Geographic Junior Science sets they have in alot of toy shops......been eyeing up the walkie talkies or the night vision goggles for my older kids for xmas....they are between $20 to $40 for a lot of the sets.

You're good, my sons kindy will be getting a book!

Have they got romper stompers (go on your feet with a string)?

Or

A metal detector

Or

A Giant magnet

Or

Quoits

Or

Large Foam Dice

The ducks is still in the bag in the bottom of fridge at moment...too late to do plucking earlier with teatime getting closer.

Got all of that already as kindy is very environment and animals awareness. Got warm farm, compost bins, water butt etc! Got a fish, a frog and a bird...brilliant kindy :clap

I like the sound of foam dice, something kids can play with number games. Will look later when finish ironing first :uhoh

There are always new picture books to buy .....
Or Music CDs?
Do they have a computer? Maybe some software?
Jigsaws?
A new batch of playdoh you've made yourself (with glitter of course! ;-) )
and some new cutters

Our kindy has a fair few puzzles & products made by Brightway, but unfortunately I just looked on the website and you cant order online, grrrr.

Wooden puzzles are a good idea, some extra sandpit toys, books, or maybe even a peice of funiture, or even some CD's of childrens songs if you can find out one they dont have?

Our kindy has a cockateil, a budgie, a fish & a cat that pops in from time to time!

Can't you just ask if they need anything?? A couple of the outdoor toys (mainly sandpit stuff) in our kindy looked a bit tired so was on the agenda for parents committee to get more...

Gosh this sound expensive.
My daughters kindy has the same no food rules but what normally happens is that after the birthday child gets to make a crown and is the centre of attention at mat time, the other kids make them cards and at home time all the kids file pass the birthday child say goodbye and get given a sticker/ pencil/ rubber/ balloon by the departing child.
I was planning on 45 glitter pencils, I might need to raise my game plan,(and my budget) .

Took karen's advice and had chat with one of teachers, we went ummm, ohhh, ahhhh while we were thinking what we should get for kindy...
I did suggested about this
Today's Chart (http://www.elftoys.co.nz/viewtoys.php?catID=20) because we got one (see first photo in "how to prepare the ducks" ;)) and found it very good.
She agreed that was best idea as they haven't got one and give kids something to look forward when they arrive kindy to do this "job to do"

Thanks to everyone for their help!:clap
