What is MAF? I've heard it being used, but haven't got a clue what it stands for.

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Basically, they are responsible for making sure that all imports (including the shipment of personal goods in your container) into NZ are within regulations.

Not to be confused with Customs...

It gets worse when you throw in Biosecurity NZ which is part of the MAF. They're the people who keep watch on animal and plant products coming into NZ.

Theres no need to feel threaten and scared by these guys - all they are doing is trying to protect the country you are choosing to live in! :) The one who came to inspect our container was great we had a good laugh with him, even ed him some of my Uk cadbury chocolate and no i wasn't trying to bribe him! :p

If you have any questions about any 'doubtful' items email them direct they are more than happy to help (don't always believe what the shippers tell you can't be taken - check with those in the know first, get it from the horses mouth so to speak and keep the emails as evidence.)
