I think I got my info wrong :oops: I thought there was no free health system in NZ but having just read some websites it seems its the same as the UK - can someone confirm this as we are spending on private insurance each month when I don't think we really need to!

Not sure on it Helen but my understanding is that you are covered for Hospital, things resulting from accidents, not sure on the x rays tests etc. Also not sure if this cover is when you have work visa or whether it kicks in with PR. Someone please confirm.

Hubby is a welder on a two year work visa, and recently got a splinter in his eye (quite normal for a welder :roll: ), he went to the A&E and was given a sick note for two days off work :nice1 We were covered by the ACC which paid 80% of his earnings :nice1 :nice1

I also think hospital visits are free if refered by your doctor, but we haven't actually tested that yet :hopeso :hopeso

Yes, that does make sense as I didn't have to pay for a blood test or gynea stuff..
