Wondering if anyone else saw the Foo Fighters over the last two nights at the vector in Auckland.

We went last night. It was the final show of their latest world tour.

I've seen an incredible number of live bands over the years and I have to say this was a spectacular show.

They were on for over two and a half hours, can't think of a popular song they didn't play, plus a number of great album tracks too, not a singe cover, which shows the depth of material they have built up to draw from over the years.

The show featured an additional circular stage that was lowered from the rafters to the centre of the arena half way through, from which they played a 30 minute set of their slower songs for a bit of light relief from the ear splitting shouty numbers (which, to be fair, most of their fans prefer).

Whether it was a feature of the last show of the tour, or something they did every night I don't know, but they had (seriously) a solo played on the triangle at one point (hilarious) and the encore was seven or eight songs long, hence the 200 minute show.

The place was heaving, the crowd were in good voice, Dave Grohl was at his humorous best between songs and even allowing for the ginger haired freak+ next to Paula dancing like a drunken gazelle on crack it was a great night.

We saw the Foo's about two and a half years ago on our 10th wedding anniversary at London Earls Court and they were good then, but even better last night.

The support band were rubbish though. Think they were called Sky Bombers (?). They looked about 12 years old and truly lost on the enormous stage with a load of hairy (and some bald, obviously) people just staring at them, waiting for them to s*d off so the Foo Fighters could start.

All in all, I highly recommend going to see the Foo Fighters any chance you get. A genuinely awesome show. Quality entertainment.

+ Note: I don't wish to imply all ginger haired people are freaks, but it does seem that a disproportionate number of freaks are ginger haired. Merely an observation.

I am SO jealous. Just about 8 years ago I saw a Foo Fighters concert (Color and Shape tour, my first concert EVER). I loved it.

I saw that they'd be in NZ on my birthday and was crushed. I've been wanting to see them, but they haven't come to Cleveland recently. Now who knows when the next time they'll return to NZ is.

They've been in NZ for both the last two tours, so I would imagine they will be back.

Could be a couple of years though I suppose. Year to the next album, then a world tour for a band of their stature usully lasts about a year too, and doubtless little old NZ will be tagged n the end as usual.

Dave Grohl relly knows how to work a crowd without coming across as a big rock star w*nker.

Saw him as stick man with Nirvana too. Now that really was one hell of a show - I saw one of those 'top ten' shows recently doing top ten live performances and Nirvana ar Reading festival was number 2 (Live Aid was number one).

I was there (at Reading, not Live Aid). :yes Oh yes!

It'll be so exciting to be in a country where it's common to see concerts like that.

But when great bands, like foo fighters, go to NZ, do they usually perform only in Auckland?

The Foo's were 'awesome'. Best gig I've ever been to (not that there's been that many). :D
