My husband and I (from Canada) have decided to get the ball rolling on going to NZ to work for a year, aiming for January 2009. I'm a midwife and he is a teacher, so we know we won't have any trouble finding work. The tricky part might be in finding work in the same area. Apparently teachers are in greatest demand in the Auckland area, however we are really not city dwellers and would prefer something greener and slower paced. There are interesting opportunities for me in Grisborne and Bay of Plenty areas, but not sure about teachers. Any insight about this would be appreciated.
Anyway, there seem to be several recruiting agencies for teachers and midwives, like Geneva Health for ex. They are free for us. I was wondering how worthwhile these types of agencies are, and what people's experiences have been with them.
thanks,
Natalie

I'm A teacher and have made contact with Oasis recruitment in Auckland. I met them at an expo in London but then emailed them (they have a website with contacts) and have had a couple of emails from them with information and things I need to do, so I've found them quite helpful so far. Obviously once I've got NZQA assessment done and done my teacher registration then I shall be asking them to help me find a job - then we'll see how good they really are!!

They'll be fighting over themselves to get you as a midwife - anywhere in New Zealand. My newly qualified UK daughter has just arrived here to work in Auckland but, to be honest she could have gone anywhere. As far as teaching is concerned, look at the Education Gazette website where you'll find all the NZ vacancies. January jobs won't be out until probably September/October but you can get a lot of information about schools and areaas from the TKI link. You could try agencies but doing your own approaches worked for us. (I'm a teacher).
Start getting your paper work together - especially NZQA and the Professional Registrations (you can do this before you apply for visas) and surf the net for areas you like the look of. And, of course, keep in touch with the forum. Best of luck!
Oh yes, and welcome to the forum.:)
