Hi Neil,
There isn't really a 'should' answer to that question as it depends on so many things. Given the UK housing market at the moment you might be better off selling first and doing any number of things:
1) move in with family
2) move into rented accommodation
3) come out on a tourist visa and look for work
4) delay completion until you've got a job
etc, etc, etc.
On the other hand given the UK housing market are you in a position to rent your place out?
In terms of getting a job it depends what sort of work you do e.g. if its teaching or nursing you are going to need your qualifications assessed before submitting EOI (I think) and that takes time so maybe you could put your house on the market whilst you do that.
Then again if you work in something like IT you might be able to get a job from the UK and then its all a question of how long your potential employers would hold the job open for you?
Equally if you work in quite a specialist field it might be best to find work and then sell the house.
There are lots of forumites who have done it both ways and there is a lot to consider and none of us are really qualified to give you a definitive answer as we don't know your exact situation.
HTH and good luck with whichever way around you decide to do it.
Anneliese
