More advice needed I am afraid...

When we get to the Kapiti Coast my OH will be working in Wellington some 60 kilometers away. The kids will be at school and I will need to get a part time job fairly local so that I can keep myself busy and bring in a bit of much needed income.

My trade is in catering, qualified as a chef but I fancy some pastry work. I wonder if NZ has many opportunities for mums wanting to work school friendly hours?

My eldest is only 11 so it will be a few years until he is able to look after himself in the holidays I guess (14 years old in the UK)!

Any help and advice gratefully received.

Hi Budapest!
Sorry, I can't help you with your query, I just wanted to say Hi! We moved to the Kapiti Coast in Jan / Feb this year, and love it so far.

Like your OH, I have a job in Welly, and I commute on the train every day. It's roughly an hour each way, but the views are gorgeous, and they serve good coffee on the platform at Paraparaumu Station :-)

Hi Budapest :)
I think there is usually school-hours friendly work available, generally speaking, in NZ.
There are cafes, restaurants etc (http://www.kapiti.org.nz/restlist.html) in Paraparaumu of course, and in and around Coastlands Mall (http://www.coastlands.co.nz/ourstores.htm) could have opportunities for work for you - if you want to work for someone else or set up your own business?
We are thinking of moving up the coast, bigger flatter sections for one. :nice1
OH works in Welly too.
Good luck :)
