OH and I have finally decided to sell most of our stuff and keep a few things to ship over, the things i want to keep are :
brand new dyson hoover
sons toys
brand new fancy iron board and new iron
a couple of boxes each of our own items
bedding ie quilts, covers ect
baby crib( which i hope to use again while out their;) )
could someone tell me if any of these items are NOT worth shipping as OH does not want to take hoover or iron board, he thinks the iron board is a stupid idea, but i just bought and its quite fancy:o.
I would be happy for any advice thanky you all once again.

Yes bring your dyson :yes :yes
Ironing board - depend on why you like it? If because they go higher for tall people, then maybe as I haven't found ironing board go higher yet for me without hurting my back during ironing cos I am 6ft tall :roll
Baby stuffs - I brought everything with me! to save money to buy all stuff all over again...cos I know I will have third child once I arrived in NZ.

I would bring it - because the only ones you can get here are rubbish.
No-one irons of course..... but they are useful as a high table at bbq parties!
lol
Definitely bring the Dyson!

Ironing boards here are on the whole quite flimsy......bring it!! And decent Irons are expensive too...the ones in the warehouse are low end models...if yours is half decent bring it too.

Bring it all, once you are earning $$$$ and not £££ then these items are expensive. I kick myself daily for not bringing those kinds of items with me. Just a thought too, you can rent homeware and linen until your container gets here. www.rentessentials.co.nz and hey OH keep her happy:raebanana

Definitely bring the Dyson, they are in NZ and are finally coming down in price but you will have no problem with bringing it.
If you are bringing the Iron then check how much power it takes as NZ mains supply is only recommended upto 10A or 2400W, if the Iron takes more power than this then don't bother - it would be better to just buy one once in NZ.
For the bedding, if you aren't bringing the beds, then would check that the bed sizes are going to match, or at least the bed sizes that you need are readily available otherwise the bedding may not fit well.

My NZ family's ironing board is way flimsier than my UK one. If you've got a good one, I'd say KEEP it. Natasha's OH, maybe you're not the one doing ironing while your children are around? If you've been in that situation, you'll know to be grateful for something that's really stable and solid, yet also good for the purpose so it doesn't break your fingers (or back) when it comes to setting it up and putting it away.

I completely regret not bringing my iron and ironing board from UK :( The ones we've bought here were not cheap at all and are pretty rubbish to be honest - avoid ironing at all costs mind you :yes
I'd bring them and the dyson

JandM - I apparently can't iron as well as Natasha so I don't get a chance to use this (allegedly) great iron board.
The cost of shipping something easliy replaced can be worthwhile surely?
to the men reading this tread you know as well as I do that the board will go with us as I never will any of these sort of arguments.....

I would entirely agree with that point, and I wasn't just being awkward or all-females-together-ish. I was supporting Natasha's position because you CAN'T apparently replace like with like.
As I said, my family in NZ have an ironing board they bought there, not the cheapest available that might be expected to be rubbish, or anything approaching that, but it isn't a patch on the one I bought here in the UK - you just can't get the same quality, apparently.

I have been advised to take as much as I can over there as the prices of stuff is much higher and the quality not as good. It is amazing how much the little things add up too as well.

Did you mean the cost of shipping isn't worth it when it can be replaced cheaply in NZ?
If that is the case, then it depends on how you are shipping i.e. if you have a container and there is still space in it, then the shipping is effectively free for those items you take above and beyond what you wanted to take.
This is why the advice is, if you are using a container then fill it with everything, even things you were planning on selling first as you may decide that you want it after all, or you can sell it in NZ and likely get a better price for it than you would in the UK.

I would say bring the ironing board - have found the ones here really rubbish - I bought what I thought was a giood one - and expensive and it falls over if you look at the thing. So if its a good solid one - bring it.

Quite right - and women understand that eventually you'll just resign yourself to this phenomena before you return to the more important things in life.......

Hi Natasha, maybe it was a Freudian Slip "iron boar" meaning your OH :laugh .
I can't believe all the ironing boards in NZ are rubbish and I totally agree with your OH cannot see any point in bringing an iron let alone an ironing board. In my vast ironing experience all boards and irons seem do do that same thing. Now taking your bicycle that's another matter, I'm going to take my Condor blah blah blah.............:)

Can't you?
Well, let me put it this way...
Most things can be purchased easily in NZ, but if you want QUALITY then thats another matter. All depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Well I think it would pretty awesome if you actually had an iron boar. And if it could produce little iron boars, just think of all the money you could make selling them!

I have a very cool ironing board (just don't look at the price!):

You can even get covers to remind you of home:

I'm not actually very good at ironing though - so I couldn't comment on whether it's a good quality board or not... but it looks fun, and can make me smile when I'm ironing, which is all that counts in my book!

Natasha - how many ironing boards do you want?!
Erm, it's ok to iron on. To be honest, I absolutely despise ironing, and the only reason I got the ironman was to try and make it slightly less mundane for me. I actually only iron stuff when I really need it, so for the most part, it's just a big red man stood in the corner of my kitchen!
