Hi all

I was hoping to submit my visa application tomorrow but have just noticed that my partner needs to make a declaration which has to be witnessed by 'someone authorised to take statutory declarations'. I can't find any details on the Immigration website.

Does anyone know who this needs to be? Does it have to be a notary public?

No it doesnt but it does have to be a solicitor, justice of the peace or some such legal eagle. The sponsorship form does state this near to where the signature is required near the back.

Hope this helps :nice1

We had the same problem.

We took the whole family down to New Zealand house to submit our applications. Only to be told, after insisting they check through our applications, that we also needed this partnership form signing by a solicitor.

We were really annoyed as I thought I had been so careful with our applications which had taken months to put together. We have now had this declaration signed by a solicitor back home and I now have to send this in to New Zealand house with my application. This will now delay our visa application and time is short as we aim to leave in about 4 - 5 weeks.

The form only came into effect in November '07and has apparently caught many people out. So be warned!!

Thanks Destiny

Hi Joolzr,

We just phoned a local solicitor, explained that we needed a statutory declaration and the reasons, and asked how much they would charge. They were able to fit us in the next morning (on our way to NZ House to drop off our visa applications :D) and only charged us £5 which is a heck of a savings compared to the £75.00+ that the notary wanted!

Only took 10 minutes too!

Eve :)
