Hi!

I have my Criminal Record Search Certificate thats states that I have no record of conviction existing on the Winnipeg Police System and the National Criminal Records Repository of Canada. Is this all I need? And yes, it is less than 6 months old.

I was reading the NZIS site and there is a link stating that you go through the RCMP to get your criminal certificate. It says that you need a fingerprint check through the RCMP and that it takes an average of 120 days to process. Ummmm...I was hoping to be packing for NZ at that point.

Please tell me the certificate I have is good enough.

Thanks
Leanne

Hi Leanne,

I know I got RCMP check done, and the waiting period was shorter than what was written on website. If you mark on the envelop, "Rush Request By XYZ date" as well, as a note inside the letter, you might manage to jump in the queue.

Alternatively, you might want to check to see what your local RCMP station says.

Maybe things have changed in the last couple of years, but I went to my local RCMP office, (was told it could not be done by Victoria city police) and got the police clearance letter while I waited. It took 10 minutes. There was no need for fingerprints. Would this be because I was on partnership or have things changed? One piece of info I did receive from NZIS (as I was in NZ on a visitors permit at first) was to get the police clearance while I was back in Canada taking care of family stuff, as that way it would only take a couple of weeks, and if I wrote from NZ to get it, it would take about 6 months.
