Well, as I have just posted on the 'Anyone on the market' thread, we have just sold our house. We have to be out in 2 weeks, so we are moving back to the very same rental that we were in when we first moved here. We need somewhere cheap and fast and it fits the bill. I'm not looking forward to it, I wasn't happy there before, but it's only temporary whilst our house is being built.
When we first got here, we had a large amount of equity from our UK house sale, and I have to confess I went on a bit of a spending spree real estate wise! With the end result that we over-stretched ourselves and couldn't really afford to go head with the house build on our lovely bit of land. I had originally planned to raise a mortgage on this house to fund the build, but what with soaring interest rates and bad exchange rate, that was no longer feasible. So we've had to sell our lovely house so we can pay for the build. Hey ho, you live and learn.
So back to rental we go - and soon! Be prepared for a bit of misery from my direction. Although I'm quite excited at the thought of watching my very own house being built, so that may keep me going.

Wishing you the best in these months while you await completion of your build. Good to have that light at the end of the tunnel this time - it'll make tolerating the rental that much easier.
'Twas a sweet house - I'm sure the new owners will be delighted!
BTW, who's drawing those great pictures for your avatars? Love the ones that look to perhaps be protraits of mum!

Sam, that's great news - I'm not surprised you house sold so quickly though. Better stick together you and me on the miserable rental phase, we are also in the same dilemma as you regarding finances and our house build!

Good luck with the move Sam - I'm sure that watching your beautiful new home being built on your lovely piece of land, and knowing that the rental is only a temporary measure, will help make it easier this time around.

Well done for selling so quickly in the current market. Loads of houses around where we live that have been on the market for months and months and months!
Shame about having to go back to rental but hey there is a silver lining to that black cloud - your own home! Focus on that and all the decisions you'll have to make along the way and I'm sure you won't have time to dwell on being in the rental.
Good luck with it all,
Anneliese

Blimey Sam. Slow down lass or you'll meet yourself coming the other way!
At least you know it's a means to an end, shame it's over the miserable months I suppose.
Plenty to look forward to though.
Good luck.

My avatars are all drawn by Sorrel, my 7 year old. I love her pictures!
Thanks for the good wishes everyone, and the offer of help Steve. I am planning to take step by step photos of the build and will post them on here of course. Here's to a cold damp winter in rental Lesley! (Are you building too?)

That is good news Sam. I know you didn't hold much hope of selling in the current climate. I hope you managed to get what you wanted for it. I look forward to seeing pictures of your new house in the various build stages.
