hi, my partner is working as a joiner/builder in NZ on a work permit. we are in the process of applying for resisdency and my partner (who is the main applicant) has decided he wants to come out of the building trade once he we have permenant residency. is this possible or does he have to work for a specific amount of time after gaining residency?
many thanks

If your residency is issued without any conditions you are free to do as you like! :) :clap :)

Yep! If you have PR you can work in any field for as long as you like- freedom!

As others have said, when you are granted a PR, they may impose conditions on you under section 18A.
If they do, then you have to meet these conditions so that they can be removed. Once removed you are free to work, or not as you want.
The normal condition is to remain in the same job for at least 3 months.
