Whether you live or are in the process of moving to NZ, I was just wondering what were/are your reasons for moving to New Zealand?

I'm just intrigued having bought property in France (Vosges, Dept. 88) and lived there last year for 9 months or so.

Any comments/points of view will be much appreciated, thanks.

I'm a born and bred Frenchie from the Paris area, although a bit of a mix :D Moved to Auckland with my Kiwi OH nearly 2.5 years ago. We met in the UK and they couldn't extend their visa, so I tagged along when they went back home.

Absolutely no regrets so far, NZ has given me the opportunites (work and other stuff) that France/the UK did not. Although I miss my family a bit, I'm lucky enough to be able to return every year for a vacation and catch up with everyone...I must admit I miss the food more :laugh. There aren't a lot of French people in NZ but I met a few in Auckland during my time here :yes

I've just seen that you are heading for Christchurch. Perhaps we can meet up sometime when you get here, if only to talk about the beautiful country that is France.

Yeah, sounds good... both OH and I are trying to keep our French language up, so any conversation will be a big help. It's surprising just how much you forget in a short period of time... our 5 year old son was doing really well whilst living in the Vosges, but now he'd struggle with the basics :roll

Too true about "the beautiful country that is France"... we adore the Vosges area and nearby Alsace. Our farmhouse is currently up for sale, however we're thinking of renting it out for 2 or 3 years whilst giving NZ a try... that way we've got something to fall back on should things not work out. Then again the current exchange rate will go in our favour should we soon get a buyer... € to £ :D
