Does anyone know if you are OK to use a UK disabled badge in NZ?
I know I've been to a country somewhere that allowed you to use a UK one.
MIL is coming over & has one & would be a great help if she could use in it hilly Wellington
Thank you

Sorry, but no it is not valid to be used in NZ.

You can get a temporary one from NZ but it is quite a complicated process, if I remember correctly you need to get a NZ doctor to certify the need.

I got one for my Dad when he came over - I contacted CCS and explained his situation, and they sent me one by return post.

The Auckland office were incredibly helpful.

I know it is canterbury's but they can point you in right direction and if you had problem with your areas', go back to canterbury's and ask if can get it from them because the pass is NOT restriction to canterbury, can be used in anywhere in NZ as my grandma took it with her to my sister's in Auckland after stay with us.
We able to get the pass for our grandma but on one condition that we must post it back to canterbury's once our grandma has left for UK.

Tip from me: READ the rules because it is different to UK's rules so I don't want you caught the wrong side of law ;)
Good Luck!

That's a great link.

How do I get a Permit?
All applications have to be certified by a doctor. Your doctor, medical specialist or nearest CCS Disability Action branch has application forms.

From this though, it does look like the information I was given was basically correct regarding needing it to be certified by a doctor?

No need to! Just explain the situation!

Thank you all, whilst you were all replying I checked the Wellington council website that says "In addition Wellington City Council recognises valid permits used by international visitors to this city."
However on calling CCS Wellington office they have said NO it's wrong crazy as I know we used my Mums in the USA & it was fine, If your disabled in one country your disabled in another  Don't get me started
I have been told she will need to go into their office with her badge, proof of ID & something showing her primary illness (I assume why she has been given a badge in the UK) & for a fee of $30 she can have a temp one.
I'll pass this info on to her & see what she thinks, when I tell her of the hills she may well get one
Thank you all for your help :clap :cheers

:no I got mine free from disability action. I suggest you try chch's number I gave you because I didn't need to do anything, like ID etc even no money to pay for it. I am surprise you have to pay for your MIL because the pass is cover whole NZ, no local pass.

I certainly didn't pay anything or have to prove anything to get one for my Dad either. I phoned the Auckland office, and just told them that he was coming for a visit and is classed as disabled in the UK. They then sent me an orange badge to use whenever he was in the car, that was valid for the extent of his visit. And he definitely used it all over NZ - including in Wellington. It's an NZ card valid throughout the country.
Try calling one of the other branch offices of CCS and see if you can get a different response.
