I have got a potential job offer from a New Zealand employer just waiting on references. I would like to know how long employers have given people from giving them a job offer to get to New Zealand for your start date? just so i know a rough timescale to work to

OH is a Senior IT Project Manager in Auckland he received a job offer late April 2007 and flew out to start work in the first couple of weeks of July 07 (sorry can't remember the exact date).

It does vary a lot from employer to employer and also what sort of field you are in. e.g. I think nursing positions seem to be held open for longer.

OH works in health and initially employers wanted him in November after offering job in August but house sale delayed us :( They were happy to wait until January 08

As you're finding, there's a wide variation!

My employer let me decide. I settled on 5 months from job offer date to start date.

Paul was offered job in early March and employers have agreed to hold for him until end of July.

I was offered in September '07 but told them it would Sept '08 before we were in NZ. I have had renegotiate my start date and I now start in October '08.

Verbal job offer 17th April, official contract/paperwork received 7th May, start date negotiable but suggested no later than 30th September. Again, as some have already mentioned, it does seem variable. Dependant on job, organisation and how desperately they need to fill the posts, I guess!?

Verbal job offer on April 7 with plans of being there by Sept/Oct. This timeframe was not a problem for them. Official contract is for Nov 3 (just in case there are any immigration problems). This is for a hospital in Auckland.
