I was just wondering how flexible employers are..

I work part time at the moment and that fits in around school times but if one of the children are ill or if there is a random day off school then I can usually work from home or a friend will look after them, we manage the school hols between myself and DH with a family member helping out for a couple of weeks.

Obviously we won't have any kind of support network when we make the move so I just wanted peoples experiences of working with young children (8 & 6) when you have the occasional hiccup :)

Thanks!

Working for the government, extremely. We've occasionally had people's kids crayoning in a meeting room because of daycare hiccups, sick leave can be taken if your kids are sick (not your holidays), holidays work around schools, etc. No problems.

Work-Life Balance (http://www.dol.govt.nz/worklife/index.asp) is a key government project.

Thanks Chiba, that is good news.

The UK are doing a lot for working parents but it seems to be causing a bit of ill feeling amongst people who don't have children and employers are reluctant to employ anyone who has children of a school age. I am extremely lucky with my employers but I know they are an exception. :no
