As I have put elsewhere I am in NZ on my reccie and trying to secure work, and on Tuesday I have an interview for a post in Tauranga (after finally learning how to say it!).
I would like to know if there is anything I should see whilst I am there that would help confirm that this would be a great place to live and bring up a family etc. The population seems a good size to ensure there are plenty of facilities etc and that kids won't get bored, am I right?
All thoughts appreciated.

It would depend on your interests. If you and your family enjoy water sports and outdoor activities then you will love Tauranga. If you are into more learned pursuits and cultural activities ie attending the opera, visiting museums etc then you may possibly find Tauranga a tad on the dull side.

Hi Alan,
I think you should definitely get over to Mount Maunganui and have a look at the beach, that's what sold Tauranga to us!!!
Where is your interview taking place??

It's at the Telecom exchange on Cameron Rd.
All of us want an outdoor life, not into anything too cultural! Anyone available for a cuppa, whilst I'm there?

If you have the time ( and the inclination ), climb to the top of Mauao - Mt Maunganui. The views are spectacular and you will really get an appreciation for how stunning the harbour and hinterland are. Takes approx 40 mins from hot water pools to reach the top. Otherwise walk around the base of Mauao - really lovely and takes 30 - 40 mins. Enjoy.

If you are a family, and not neccessarily into too much culture, then the area is superb for beach life, walking and cycling.
The only down side is the cost of housing IMHO. The better areas are premium prices, but it all depends on what you are looking for long term.
