Not sure why I found this so fascinating, but I did.

Today the bus stop opposite our house was being replaced. I was very impressed with the speed and efficiency of the council workers completing the job.

All done inside 30 minutes (excepting the laying of new concrete base last week - which was equally efficient)....

I'm convinced this would have taken a UK team 14 men, two weeks and at least two lanes of a major motorway to be coned off. And that would just be to bring in the portaloo!

Perhaps it was nearly 'smoko' and they had to get it done before that! :D

Have to say that one thing still really makes me laugh, when there are roadworks and instead of setting up traffic lights, they have two people with the stop and go lollipops and walkie talkies!! :laugh

Have to say I was equally impressed with how quickly our local council replaced the broken glass in our local bus stop. They also cleared away said broken glass.

I drove past in the morning not broken, on the way home mid morning broken, drove past again after school pick up all fixed again!

Sam, I guess you wouldn't normally be this interested, but I suspect being out of work does strange things to the mind (reference the dunny thread) :uhoh

Clearly they are not council workers, they are private sector contractors. If you want something done properly, get the private sector to do it.

Must say though I've been unimpressed with the amount of broken glass on the roads in the first place. Also there seems to be a limited number of street lights once you're off the major roads, that and the fact some are never lit can make punctures too common cycling home in the dark.
