Hello everyone.
My DH and I decided in December 07 that we didn't want to stay in the UK anymore and looked at places we'd like to emigrate to. Top of both our lists was NZ and Canada. After much discussion and list making we decided it had to be NZ. We went to the Sandown Expo in March and the Working-In Expo in April. Not a lot of positives came out of both of those due to DH's job not fitting into any immigration boxes. However, we did get some good advice on places to look. DH was advised that tanker drivers were in demand so he sent off his CV to 4 companies. 2 replied saying they needed 5yrs road driving experience on NZ roads (even though DH had been a driver in the RAF for 22yrs in some very difficult terrain/conditions). 1 company requested a video link-up to carry out an interview. Cutting a long story slightly shorter, DH has been offered a very good job, not even the one he originally applied for and the company is an accredited employer. They want him out there by the beginning of July. So far he's had his police check, medical, x-ray and additional drug and alcohol testing - basically everything needed for the visa application. He's just waiting for a driver assessment course to be completed before the official job offer can be sent to include with the visa application.
All systems are GO!
I'm going to have to stay behind to sort out getting the house rented and apply for our visas (myself and our 3DDs, 5, 4 and 18mths). With any luck we should be able to join DH in August.
So excited and scared all at the same time.
Any advice on whether we can get a Talent Visa fairly quickly?????

Not sure about the talent visa but I was told 2-4 weeks for a temporary work visa for OH at NZ house in London. Are you going to temporary or PR?
We were lucky though- as OH is a doctor and the hospital were desperate so they used a contact, who got both our visas turned round in a week. Makes sense I guess as they were paying a locum which is usually double the cost. I'm not sure it would have taken 2-4 weeks though. They were negative when I went in and played the party line but I suspect it wouldn't have taken that long. Not that that helps when your trying to plan your life!
Good luck- staying behind sounds a bit stressful but I guess your OH can have a house set up for your arrival.

Hello and welcome!
Btw can't you tag along on DH's visa as a family? Not that I have firsthand knowledge of this particular process but it seems strange to have to apply for seperate visa.

Pebbles - DH is getting a WTR via the Talent (accredited) route, I have to get a Temporary Work Visa supported by DH, my 5yo needs a Student Visa  and the 2 youngest will need Visitor visas .................. or so the Immigration department have informed me.
Thanks for all the responses :) - Good to see this site ticks over at a fairly high pace :D
TBH because of the speed things are going it is not really possible for me and our girls to go out with DH, also, we didn't want to go through the expense of all of us getting medicals if DH doesn't succeed in getting the written job offer - a lot of expense going to waste. At least this way DH can get some accommodation sorted out for when we do all arrive, albeit void of a lot of furniture until our container arrives. Can't say I'm looking forward to a long haul flight with 3 little ones though, but I've been picking up tips from a parenting website I frequent.

I assume that your OH is applying for a 30 month WTR - you must have at least 24 month visa to get medical coverage.
You don't apply for a temporary work visa, you actually apply for a general work visa. I assume that you will be applying for this quickly once your OH is in NZ? I ask because your general work visa will only last as long as his WTR which means that if you left it for 6 months then you wouldn't have a suitable visa for medical coverage.

Ian, yes it's the 30 month WTR. I shall be applying for mine and the children's visa asap because neither I nor DH want to be apart for long, ahhhh, LOL - this will be as soon as I've got the LO's a passport and changed the name in mine, so should be well within the time limit, but thanks for the heads-up. I've been told to complete form 1015 (Application to Work in NZ?) and my DH needs to support this using 1146 (form for partners supporting partnership-based temporary entry). I've got forms and numbers coming out of my ears, so I'm getting a tad confused at times, LOL.
Check list for tomorrow: locate where I have 'safely' put the birth certificates :( - Pretty sure no one can help with that one :uhoh

Have a belated welcome to the forum :) missed it from my last post.
From what you have posted so far, you seem to have a good handle on everything i.e. the forms needed etc are all good, so well done for that.
Sure you already know, but for the birth certificates you will need the full ones and you can send off for replacements if you have lost the originals.

Hi there and a huge welcome to the forum.
My partner got a WTR visa and I automatically got one too. Our sons automatically got student visas. I didn't have to apply separately. Am I missing something here?

Oh - so that's different again  I can only assume I've been given this information because we are going via the Talent route. We aren't submitting EOI's and the such as, I believe (maybe wrongly), we are fast-tracking our application by getting a job offer from an accredited employer. DH's role isn't on the long or short-term lists.
Any further information/advice regarding these points will be gratefully received. Gosh it's all so confusing isn't it?

It's not really different, you are choosing not to apply for your visas at the same time as your OH when normally you would submit all the applications at the same time.
And just to clarify your other point. If you have a suitable job offer then you would normally either apply for a PR or a WTR. A WTR is normally quicker to get than a PR. But a PR is normally the better option overall.
Best advice would be that if you would have enough points to submit a PR and get it selected and you or your employer are prepared to wait for you, then go for the PR, otherwise go for the WTR.
