According to "Clayton" of Air New Zealand (he's a nice man, a very nice man) we can have the double luggage allowance on our flight, using economy going out and booking flexible fare on the return leg.
OK I hear you say, so whats the big deal with that?? Well, we can still have the double allowance without having to take the dreaded stop in LA :D As long as we have booked LA return and Hong Kong out we cans still have it :raebanana As we plan to be cashing in the return leg, fingers crossed, this sounds a win win situation :nice1
Just thought I'd pass that on in case (scuse the pun) anyone else is thinking "how can I get the double allowance and avoid LA at the same time?"

That interesting. My call to AirNZ indicated to me that I could cash in my return flight before I took the first leg. Once I had flow the 'to' journey, no refunds were possible. A cancellation fee of £150 exists and is listed on their website when you book as a standard T&C.
Sound the same?

You could also go with Singapore Air, on producing a valid, unused PR visa they will allow double baggage, and, if your destination is Cch, it would be only two flights, instead of a third flight from Auckland.

Genie, did you have to buy a 'special' fare because when I enquired with Singapore Air they said you could have the extra baggage allowance but only with their migrant fare, which was only one way and more than a normal one way (on the particular dates I asked about)? Just wondered if Air NZ did something similar - although if you've got a return I guess not??

We got 30k each passenger with Singapore, but we still managed to be 57k over (oops!) managed to get away with it though.
Manchester they didn't care, but Singapore the lady on the check in got a bit shirty......

I'm confused by why would you want to cash in your return flight before flying out?? As we will be travelling on a holiday visa we will need to show our proof of return flight, hence the first leg with ANZ is economy and the second leg flexible. Thus allowing us to cash it in, in effect, once we have the correct visa.
I'm not sure if I've muddied the water even more now :laugh PM me if I have and I'll get my OH to answer and explain. Well, you don't keep a dog and bark yourself now do you!!!!:D

We dont know yet what visa we will have. If its visitor, id need to book it now, as return. So similar situation. Just wondered if we had been told the same about 'cancelling' or cashing in the return leg.
