My wife and I are a bit confused over whether the urinalysis is required or not - even for those over 5 years old.

On one hand, the medical form instructions (form 1133) frequently mention the need for a urine sample. Also, searching this forum many people make it sound like it's required.

On the OTHER hand, "urinalysis" is one of the tests in the "discretionary" section of the lab referral form, and is NOT one of the tests in the "standard" section. According to the instructions at the top of this form, it seems to confirm that the discretionary tests are just that - and not compulsory.

I need to verify this because my wife and I both received our forms back from the doctors (two separate doctors). I ended up doing the urinalysis and she didn't, and I want to make sure we won't have to re-do hers on that basis.

Just checked the medical examiners handbook which states, "The urine of every applicant aged 5 years and older must be tested."

Our children just had to pee on a stick at the time of the medical rather than provide an actual sample in a bottle. That was the extent of our urinalysis but it is definitely required.

Thanks Helen!

I was about to answer my own question, but you beat me to it :) I just noticed in the main medical examiner's certificate that it does say in small print that the urinalysis is required for everyone over 5.

I guess that settles it... in any case I'm glad we caught it before we sent the forms!

Having just done my medical two days ago.. I was tested for it at doctors and he said if the little dipstick shows any problems they then ask for a full diagnosis at a lab as extra.
