We have been reading the threads for a few months now and thought that it'd be nice to finally introduce ourselves. We are a Finn and a Kiwi moving to Dunedin in December 2008. Any other Nordic people on the forum by any chance?
Finn has applied for PR under Partnership Policy and it's with the CO for 5th week now. Does anyone have experience of the current London processing times?
We are also victims of the credit crunch trying to sell a typical first-time-buyer property in the UK...four weeks in and we have not had a single viewing:wah
Anyway, thanks for a great forum! Our limbo is so much more bearable thanks to this forum:nice1

Hello and welcome to the forum :)
Nice place Dunedin, stopped off there during our 'recce' trip last month... especially liked the Otago Peninsula.
Good luck with the house sale, there's plenty of members in the same position... us included :roll

Hello and welcome.
No, not a another Nordic person, only Danish ancestors, a Swedish aunt and holidays in Finland...
Good luck with the house sale. You never know, the elusive first-time buyer might just walk in one day (happened to us, so can happen to others).
Dunedin is excellent, nice city, beautiful surroundings, we love it here.

Hi not Nordic either, but we have a great friend who lives in Hämeenlinna and enjoyed many great holidays before we came to NZ.
I'm the Kiwi with a British partner - our PR came through in four months last year, but we needed a medical waiver, which is why it took more time. They want kiwis to come home so do their best to process it all quickly.
We're in Invercargill, so advanced welcome to the deep south :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. It's great to hear there are indeed some Nordic connections!
At least the ones with a Finnish connection can just about understand us putting a sauna in our future Dunedin home, with huge solar panels on the roof to offset the energy use:roll

Hi and welcome. I'm English with Kiwi hubby, if it wasn't for me making the most of the time limits my PR would have come very quickly. Approval in principle came about 3-4 after handing in application and then blue stickers in passport about a week or so after sending passport to get them. I found it all pretty straightforward. Now waiting for Qualification Recognition Services to pull their finger out ....

Terve! Mita Kulu?
My wonderful wife is a Finn, although she grew up in Sweden, her family is from Oulu. We are living up in Marlborough at the top of the South Island.
There is a Finnish society based in Auckland

Not come across many Finns here in our time (4 years now), good luck with the move.
Feel free to drop us a line.

Hi and welcome. My husband applied for PR under the Partnership Policy and his application has been with his CO for almost seven weeks now. He applied through the NZ Embassy in Washington DC.
Cheers,
Suzanne.

Terve!
We'll drop by for a coffee and a pulla when we're in Marlborough...I'll supply the pulla. I know there's another Finn in Christchurch...so maybe that'll be enough for a SI Finnish society:) I have already googled the Auckland Scandinavian Society but Auckland seems so far from Dunedin. I might just start baking carelian pies, rye bread and pulla and sell them at the Dunedin market...I love baking but the figure can't quite handle it:o
Kiwi is also learning Finnish...might take a few years...or decades:no

Hi Finn!
We are a Finnish-Austrian couple + a baby moving to Taranaki in 3 weeks. We got our passports with the blue stickers back last week from London! I'll (a Finn) start working in the New Plymouth hospital in August and the boys will stay at home. I guess it was a good idea financially to stay in Finland during my maternity leave.
It would be great to meet some other Finns in NZ. My husband has plenty of Finnish books, I am sure he can copy some pages to your kiwi!

Hi Jodel
Great to hear from more Finns. Lucky you, going to NZ already in 3 weeks! I have 6 months until we go and I am eager to start packing already... Whereabouts in Finland are you from originally? pm me if you prefer.
My Kiwi husband has quite a few books and a DVD from YLE...all that's needed is the hard work:roll
Hope your trip goes well and that you settle well. I look forward to meeting in NZ - more reason to bake some pulla:clap
