hi all!

so less than 2 months after submitting my ITA, 'received email from beijing branch today, and they'll be calling me for phone interview next week thursday. i hope everything will go well, and be enough so i don't have to go to beijing and have personal interview. 'could save some money from that..

meanwhile, i have to do some reseach what to expect in the call.

but still, happy that my applications seems to be moving. :cheers

note: i only have 110 points, no job offer!

Good luck with your interview.

Did you get a questionnaire with the interview notice?
Our interview was based very much on the questionnaire, mainly explaining or repeating some of our replies.

The main question was regarding work (I applied w/o job offer as well): what's your plan, what's your plan B, Did you look for jobs yet, why do you not have a job offer yet?

Hope it goes well,

Holm

thanks everyone.
@holm: yes, the case officer sent me a questionnaire (that i just finished filling up right now).

however in the questionnaire one of the question is a bit vague "Linkages and Support
(must include but are not limited to)", and the question is "What kind of support do you expect from family/friends in New Zealand?". As I don't have a family member and friends (yet) in NZ, I'm confused and worried with the phrase "must include".

hoping things will be alright. :)

You're in contact with many people in NZ who have already immigrated from their home countries, right here on these threads. There are forum members all over NZ, and I've heard stories of several people arriving and being met at the airport, and given all kinds of help, by 'friends' they'd only previously known on-screen. Also the forum is a great source of advice, so once in NZ, if in doubt on any point, you could get some knowledgeable comments on the matter very quickly.

There's your answer - you can claim 'friends' with confidence.:)

Under "Linkages and Support" i would list whoever you know in NZ, they are the "friends". I remember from our interview that they want to see it we have who could help us if we are stuck in the first few months (like housing, etc).

If you know nobody, well best is probably to be honest and say so. Not sure of what the conclusions of NZIS would be then.

For sure the question will come in the interview; be sure of what to say before it and if you have no family or friends, think of what to say when asked how you will do if things do not go according to plan.

Good luck,
Holm

hi everyone. 'had the phone call yesterday for 15 minutes.. for now, i can't say whether it's good or bad, but basically the questions are those in the questionnaire sent earlier.

he told me that it would probably take a month for them to decide on my case. still good because it's sooner than the original expected date of october 2008 (as indicated in the acknowledgment letter from nz)

thanks!
:)

hi! these are some information about the interview conducted by inz beijing.

when your case office notifies you about the phone interview by email, he will send a questionnaire list that you have to fill-up and submit (usually a day) before the actual phone interview. the interview will be in english, and should take not more than 30 minutes. of course, you have to provide a phone number, and confirm your time and availability. failure to send the questionnaire before the interview will result in a decision made on the facts that they have from your ITA and the interview itself.

the interview. first, i'm not sure if it's any concern or part of the interview, but the call was 15 minutes late than expected..so wait for a while if you don't receive the call right away. the first part of the call was introduction, he introduced himself, and explains the purpose of the call. second, he'll ask you to tell about yourself and background (current occupation, as well as previous, and how long have you been working). the rest of the questions includes (but probably not in order):

why did you choose nz as your migration destination?
if you have relatives living abroad, why did you not want to go to these places instead?
have you looked for jobs in nz?, by agency? or directly to the companies?
what is your preferred job?
what is the biggest challenge/barrier you'll have in competition to secure your preferred job in nz?
what you'll do if you can't get your preferred job?
have you been to nz? do you know any friends or relatives there?
when did you start the idea to migrate to nz and why?
have you ever taken upon a different role apart from your normal work? discuss a problem you had and how you dealt with it.

basically that sums it up, and at the end, you'll have the chance to ask questions.
hope this helps. :)

Hey there,

Thank you for the useful information regarding the types of questions that are asked. :) Very simple and straight forward. I should have no problems answering them if/when I get to that stage. :)

Hi Yas,

In case of a job offer, I doubt if you need to appear for an interview.
