Hi there everyone , did our medicals , with small hitch , but still hoping to be there by Mid July . Would like some info regarding the opening of a bank account . Do we all start afresh , or do they take your credit history while living in the UK into consideration ? Would also like to know which bank would be suggested by all new arrivals . Am currently a client of Lloyds TSB .
Need to start making arrangement soon , so please help.
Regards

We opened an account when we were over on our Reccie trip. Just took passports in to the local bank and opened a basic account there and then.
We didn't shop around as we just wanted to have something set up so that we can transfer funds if we need to.

Most banks let you open your account from the UK and get money in them ready for when you turn up. You just need to show your passport when you arrive to get an EFTPOS card (like Switch) so that you can take money out.
There are also some that have branches in London which also makes things easier.
Have a look at the following banks to see which you prefer. Most will have pages on "Migrants" which will give you the detail you need. Also note that most accounts have monthly fees and charges. I've got a Westpac Elect account and don't pay a monthly charge but have to pay a fee if I go into a branch for my banking (but free for internet, ATM and phone banking).
Banks are:
Westpac
ASB
National Bank (used to be owned by Lloyds so has the horse logo if you want to keep the same look bank!)
ANZ
BNZ
Kiwi Bank (the only NZ owned bank)
Not sure if I missed anyone out but if so I'm sure someone will correct me! :)
Good luck
James

Looks like they have a few in Auckland but not anywhere else, see Branches (http://www.hsbc.co.nz/nz/tools/branches.htm)
