Hi to everyone,
My wife and I have been thinking of emigrating to NZ for some time now.
We love the country so much we got married on Fox Glacier last year !!.
So we have finally decided to go for it and have set a date of around two years from now.
I am a telephone engineer but in NZ I am called a telephone Technician, I basically install and maintain telephone system's and network data cabling.
My job is not on the skills shortage lists but is in part B of the skilled occupations in appendix 11 in the operational manual. So it looks like I would need a job offer and with my wife's qualification it looks like we would get 140 points.Has anyone ever heard of a telephone tech getting into NZ ?I am saying yes in the does your partner have a recognized basic qualification box my wife has a degree but has never worked in any job relevant to the degree so will this still count ?.What do you think our chances of getting PR will be ?
Many thanks for all the information on this forum it really is invaluable.

James & Louise.

Welcome to the forum, good luck. I would suggest you check on your wife's degree and it's relevance to the application. The skills shortage list changes all the time, but it is up to you to weigh up the pros and cons of the application from both angles.

You will still get points for your wifes degree if you are the primary applicant. You don't have to say what she does now. My degree is totally unrelated to my job now; still got points for it, seems silly I know but shows you have studied I supoose.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

There are all sorts of pros and cons to which points you claim on the EOI. It can be done on line and won't be submitted until you press the Submit button. There is also a (quicker) points calculator so you could always play around with it a bit and see what you come up with. In the meantime good luck with it all.
