Hi everybody!
We're starting out and have been doing research on how to go about getting to NZ by 2010 (our goal). We've completed the online EOI with my wife as the principal and have read something that could well be a snag in the process we hoped to expedite. As a pharmacist, her skill is in the LTSSL. Yipee for that! But in order to claim points, her degree must be deemed equivalent to a NZ B Pharm and furthermore, she has to be registered as a NZ Pharmacist. Ah yes, the catch... she can only get registered after going through the PharmaCouncil's process and will need to be in NZ for the better part of this process! We could begin the process of getting her qualification assessed and "deemed equivalent" to a NZ BPharm and satisfy ONE of the requirements to claim points, but in the end unless she's registered as a NZ Pharmacist, we can't claim any points for this...

Some research we've done so far (in the past 2 days, so bear with me)

We've checked out the pharmacycouncil of NZ and have some preliminary info as to how to get registered in NZ.

If my wife will be the Principal, we'll probably take the following
steps:

1. Get PAR from NZQA for my wife's qualifications (to become eligible
to claim points, etc.)
2. Begin NZ Pharma Registration Process (Non-REQR Process)
Step 1 is Initial Assessment (about 3mos. lead time)
Step 2 is review for APEC Qualification Exam and wait for notice
of eligibility to Sit for the exam
Step 3 (when the test in Step 2 is passed) is to apply to become
an Intern Pharmacist (Minimum of 26 weeks internship)
Step 4 is to join the mandatory EVOLVE program and prepare to get
the Law and Ethics test for Pharma and the Practical exam that
will complete NZ Pharma Registration. Annual Practise Certificate
will also be applied for.

Based on that initial research, we can only complete Registration when
in NZ (since internship in Step 3 needs to be in NZ)

3. Submit EOI when test in Pharma is passed to ensure we get the 150
points.

Here's the thing, I was wondering if my 130 points EOI (mostly from my
qualifications being in the LRQ and my work experience) will even stand a chance to get selected given the following:
no job offer
not in absolute skills shortage
no work experience in NZ
no relatives in NZ

If my measly 130 points have a chance, it will spare us the time and expenses of going through all that I mentioned above and allow us to focus on settling, etc. when we're there. And then, and only then, would we go through the NZ Pharma Council Process so we have been able to settle, albeit on my income for the meantime.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but its the only way I know to be able to explain our situation.

Thanks for taking the time to read this far.:clap

It would be easier for people to know if their experience is relevant to your situation if you tell us what country you're in.... i.e., fill in some of the profile info. Your wife's qualification might be more o less acceptable here depending on where she was schooled.

130 points seems like plenty, but we went thru a while back....

We got PR in 2007 with 130 points. Admittedly in IT so not quite the same but I would have thought 130 points would get you pulled out of the pool. Hopefully someone will come along shortly with some first hand knowledge of Pharmacy.

Pongster's post on another thread says they're in the Philippines at the moment. But is that where your wife did her training?

Sorry for the lack of info guys...

We are from the Philippines, born and raised and educated and all...

My wife completed her studies from a school that is not in the Recognized List of Quals... which is why we're still deciding on who should be the Principal...

My line of work is in Training and Development, I'm currently a Learning and Development Manager in our country and have been in my line of work for 10 years.

I am also currently taking a dip into the world of IT, having completed my SAP certification course and am prolly taking the certification exam within the year. Since I don't have considerable experience in this field yet (IT... almost a year only) I'm quite hesitant as to whether I should claim points for work experience in IT, given that my University Degree was more of a Business Course than IT....:yes

Hi Pongster
If you look in the Health and Family section I posted a question about
Pre-paid prescriptions. It was answered by a very nice man who is a pharmacist in NZ. His name is Questor and he was very helpful indeed.:nice1
He may be the man to talk to.

Hope that helps

Hi Thanks for the headsup... Hopefully Questor sees this thread and shed some light... although I think Questor got his Quals from the UK so it would be considerably easier to get registered in NZ based on my research...

Questor.... we seek you:)

Hi Brother!!!

Sorry it took me quite some time to re-log as I've been busy filling the requirements on behalf of my OH. We just took our medical exams today and twas quite a bummer because I was classified as class II -obese (i'm 6'3" and 230lbs) such a drag!!! The doc explained to me that the BMI they use here in the Philippines is suited for Asians... Frankly I have Scandanavian blood running through my veins... But to no avail, they will still use that asian index on moi.

Hmmm that is quite a tough question...
What I think is best is that we get together for a cuppa in Manila then lets discuss your options in depth. We both have cool phones to surf the net if needed (*wink-wink) Lets put it down on paper.

See you soon bud!
