Hi everybody!
We're starting out and have been doing research on how to go about getting to NZ by 2010 (our goal). We've completed the online EOI with my wife as the principal and have read something that could well be a snag in the process we hoped to expedite. As a pharmacist, her skill is in the LTSSL. Yipee for that! But in order to claim points, her degree must be deemed equivalent to a NZ B Pharm and furthermore, she has to be registered as a NZ Pharmacist. Ah yes, the catch... she can only get registered after going through the PharmaCouncil's process and will need to be in NZ for the better part of this process! We could begin the process of getting her qualification assessed and "deemed equivalent" to a NZ BPharm and satisfy ONE of the requirements to claim points, but in the end unless she's registered as a NZ Pharmacist, we can't claim any points for this...
Some research we've done so far (in the past 2 days, so bear with me)
We've checked out the pharmacycouncil of NZ and have some preliminary info as to how to get registered in NZ.
If my wife will be the Principal, we'll probably take the following
steps:
1. Get PAR from NZQA for my wife's qualifications (to become eligible
to claim points, etc.)
2. Begin NZ Pharma Registration Process (Non-REQR Process)
Step 1 is Initial Assessment (about 3mos. lead time)
Step 2 is review for APEC Qualification Exam and wait for notice
of eligibility to Sit for the exam
Step 3 (when the test in Step 2 is passed) is to apply to become
an Intern Pharmacist (Minimum of 26 weeks internship)
Step 4 is to join the mandatory EVOLVE program and prepare to get
the Law and Ethics test for Pharma and the Practical exam that
will complete NZ Pharma Registration. Annual Practise Certificate
will also be applied for.
Based on that initial research, we can only complete Registration when
in NZ (since internship in Step 3 needs to be in NZ)
3. Submit EOI when test in Pharma is passed to ensure we get the 150
points.
Here's the thing, I was wondering if my 130 points EOI (mostly from my
qualifications being in the LRQ and my work experience) will even stand a chance to get selected given the following:
no job offer
not in absolute skills shortage
no work experience in NZ
no relatives in NZ
If my measly 130 points have a chance, it will spare us the time and expenses of going through all that I mentioned above and allow us to focus on settling, etc. when we're there. And then, and only then, would we go through the NZ Pharma Council Process so we have been able to settle, albeit on my income for the meantime.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but its the only way I know to be able to explain our situation.
Thanks for taking the time to read this far.:clap
