Hi everyone.

As the move to NZ will likely take place in a few weeks from now, I wonder about liability insurance in NZ. As the ACC websites states "In New Zealand, you cannot sue anyone for compensatory damages if you are injured".

Does that mean, I don't have to worry about my savings if my 4 year old son hurts another boy when fighting for a toy in pre-school?

So, I hope this question hasn't been asked frequently.

Ciao, W.

That's right. It also means that you can be crippled in a car crash with a drunk driver and get nothing. So insure yourself to the hilt against other people.

The ACC would pay for (some of) it though, wouldn't they?

Yes, ACC pay your immediate hospital and medical costs and (in theory) pay for your rehabilitation. Though even with ACC providing their full level of cover, it is still possible for you to be out of pocket.

Hence having your own insurance covering income protection and medical can prove helpful to help you though unexpected events.
