Just a post to keep me sane as I am loosing the will to live!!
I am nearing the end of the labourious competency questions which forms part of the NZ midwifery registration process! It is endless and correct me if I am wrong but I seem to have answered the same question about 10 times in 10 different ways! So far I have written 3600 words and finding documentary evidence is not going to be easy. Sorry I am going on but typing this is doing me good and any words of encouragement are very welcome. Nurses and Midwives you know what I am talking about!!!!!!!!
Is it time for a glass of cold white wine yet ??

Hi Bilbo Baggins,
I'm not going through what you describe, fortunately by the sounds of things, but I do regularily have a rant on this forum. As you say just writing it down helps to get it out of your system.
Keep going, you're heading in the right direction, just keep thinking of where you want to get to.

Oh, I do SO feel for you! I'm not anything to do with nursing, but mindless bureaucracy is getting in everywhere. A couple of years ago, someone from a college contacted me - note that, it wasn't me asking them for a job! - to see if I'd be interested in being a lecturer doing outreach workshops in the community for a few hours a week. I had to fill in their forms to become a member of staff, and like you said, it was the same information being asked for over and over again, and took me about half a day to do. It was SO badly designed! But that's typical of the admin side of that place. My line-manager on the practical side describes anything you have to do for admin as being 'like chewing your own leg off'.
As to your last question, look ahead to the end of the form. Is there anything there that says, 'Now blow into the bag'? No? Then reach for that glass!:cheers

Hopefully by this time of night you will have swaped the pen for a LARGE glass of chardoney!! :cheers
Hope the form filling went/goes well.
Just think of your new life ahead as you massage life back into your fingers.:nice1

Yes certainly have wrapped my fingers round the long shapely stem of a wine glass although not a chardonnay fan! Thanks for the support though and will be back at the old computer tidying up the documents etc.
I am transgressing now but just remember the NZ Long white cloud wine. It was 10 years ago when I was in NZ and I affectionately called it the land of the ------ black cloud as had an 18 day holiday in Nz with only one sunny day. Didn't dampen the spirit though as hoping to come back.
Oh well back to the old computer!!

Mmmm... does this mean OH will be in for the same amount of pain and frustraton
OH submitted her NZNC registration documents at the start of the month and the nursing agency have kindly chased up the NC to see if they've taken receipt... they have and we've also got an application number so OH's "application is now in a queue waiting for assessment" :uhoh
Good luck with everything Bilbo and keep us posted how you get on.

I can only sympathise with what you're going through, but I MUST MUST MUST reassure you that when form-filling, it's always time for a glass (or preferably 2 or 3) of wine! :D :D :D

Well I am just about done. 4200 words later it is just about ready to be sent off! Had the wine last night and did a long walk this morning to clear the hangover. This afternoon I did 3 hours solid and it is such a fantastic feeling now its virtually finished.
Just got to get things notorised, signed and referees to do their job and I am done.
Thanks all for your support and "Red Devil" I do sympathise as my partner has also been driven mad by the whole thing.

Ps Any favourite NZ white wines to get me into practise!!!:cheers

Try Montana Sauvignon Blanc - the ordinary one is LOVELY, and the slightly more expensive Réserve version is FANTASTIC.:)

Hi
as you can see from my earlier post I am also feeling the frustration of getting registeredd in nz. i am also a midwife, but i am working as a health visitor at present so I am submitting eoi as nurse. I have heard the evidence of competency is horrendous for midwives. it is so frustrating as the nmc surely are reliable in their evidence of who is allowed on the uk register or not. i get the feeling the new zealand nursing council don't trust the judgement of the nmc much!!
we are now on hold until nurse reg comes through and i have my dream employer/job wanting me to tell them when we arrive. felt really cheeky saying christmas at the earliest as i don't want to say sooner because of problems with eoi and ita that could appear after nurse reg comes through. keep feeling like spoilt brat stamping feet because i want something so bad and people are making it difficult!!
i am sure this is all to ensure they get the calmest nurses/midwives caring for their people, anyone slightly impatient would have given up by now!!
good luck, i can offer support if you need it. choccie my tipple at the moment. will need to watch weight for medicals, at this rate will go from size 10 to 22 with stress induced chocolate rampage and fail medical!

I know EXACTLY the form you're talking about...hmmm, I set that one aside a few months ago...maybe it's time to pick it up again.
Good luck! Get it done and get it out. You can fill in any holes they find as you go.
