I wish immigration would make explain things better. My question is if my Son was sponsoring my wife and myself for residency. What the sponsors application form says is "if the sponsor has lived in any other country in the last seven years other than N/Zealand he has to have a police clearance cert from that country and N/Z immigration will get clearance themselves for the time he is in N/Z" But they already got police clearance from his home country when he applied over three years ago for his own residency. Now im nearly sure i read somewhere that this only applied, if you were sponsoring a partner. Could any one on this forum be able to solve this one. It would save alot of hastle.

Sorry, I think I'm going to disappoint your hopes.

I've just been reading that form. The mention of having a police certificate from any country where the sponsor has lived in the last seven years comes in Section A. Further up the form, in the section about sponsoring parents, it says if the sponsor can answer 'yes' to all those questions, they should now fill in Sections A, B and C. So, according to the form itself, it looks as though this condition DOES apply to sponsoring parents, not only partners. (The same conditions seem to apply to sponsoring parents, partners AND siblings, which would be fair, even if a nuisance.)

I'm waiting for NZIS to get back to me about that as another member has just been told that yes, they do need new police forms (despite having submitted full forms with PR application just 3 yrs ago). I submitted my sponsorship forms (for sponsoring parents) but just noted that police forms were submiitted previously - not sure if this is going to come back to me or not....

This following lengthy thread may help.... both Avalon and I are part-way through the process of sponsoring our parents and both of us are doing it under different circumstances.

It seems daft looking for another form seeing they already have one????

Oh, but seeming daft and being a government department don't actually rule each other out in real life, now do they?!

(We have a vested interest in this issue, being parents who will be sponsored in when we're free to come, by the way. That's why I'm following this closely.)

I have been in touch with immigration about police certs. and have been told that if your son or daughter is sponsoring parents, no further police cert. is required, and n/z will get police clearence for the last 3 years themselves. ( the police cert. after 3 years up to the seventh is required for partnership wives and husbands.) so i persume the person i was talking to is right.
