When we arrive on our recce in August we'll spend our first couple of nights in Auckland's SkyCity hotel before flying down to Wellington. Any suggestions on what will make us (two adults and more importantly two boys aged 11 and 8) forget the jetlag? The other alternative of simply sleeping seems a bit of a waste of time:D.

Definitely visit Kelly Tarlton's and the Auckland Museum.
Simply take the hop-on hop-off double decker bus to see the main sights.
Or take the ferry to Devonport.

Jump off the SkyTower! :D It's a tad expensive, like anything touristy, but immense fun. They let you do it a second time straight after, for free, too!

Failing that, a cruise on the harbour. :nice1

Great idea, but the minimum age is 10 so the youngest will not be able to jump.Auckland Zoo is a great experience

and the two oldest are scaredy cats so definitely won't be able to jump:eek:. As always, it's not the height that scares me, it's the rock solid earth at the bottom that i'm scared of.

They invented that day for my flight in and the trip directly to Wellington with a 20 month old. They can keep the 30 hour day! :wah

That reminds me of the first time I arrived in Auckland and did the hop on/off bus the next day - jet lag caused me to fall asleep on the bus so I missed most of the sites ooops
